DEAD
NEWS
REPORT

Storyline

Beginning:
The movie starts out behind-the-scenes in the studios of WDNR, where we see the chaos of trying to
run a news studio while zombies are terrorizing the whole world. The opening sequence establishes
the lay out of the facility, showing offices, conference rooms, copy/fax rooms, and the studio
floor and control rooms. We see crewmembers trying to keep up with their jobs on camera, lighting
and sound, reporters on phones getting updates, anchors broadcasting, and the director arguing with
the producers. We get a general sense of the high stress, anxiety, and tension in the studio environment,
which is a microcosm for the world outside. At a certain point, we switch to the 'broadcast news' look;
which is shot with studio cameras, studio lighting, the broadcast news set pieces, character generator
graphics/titles/lower-thirds, etc. In this broadcast news style, we get a news report from the head anchor,
which gives the audience a basic background story of everything that has happened up to this point.
Then, the anchor begins cutting away to some news reports.
Middle:
Between news reports, we come back to the broadcast news segments, as well as the behind-the-scenes
segments. We get some insights into our director, producers, anchors, and reporters. We see and hear
the opinions and attitudes of the crew. The relationships between management and crew, crew and talent,
and talent and management start to develop, and we see that within each of these relationship circles
there are sub-plots and conflicts as well between certain characters. The complexities build as the
situation becomes more intense, and one by one, the conflicts climax, resulting in someone quitting
or leaving and someone else 'winning'.
End:
By the end of the movie, the studio environment is down to a skeleton crew. Only those loyal to the
station and to the effort of staying on the air have remained. The environment is also full
of obvious visual clues indicating that a hurricane of chaos has fallen upon the once-orderly studio.
A montage of paperwork, tapes, office supplies, and technical accessories litter the studio, control
room, and offices. Ultimately, as the story has developed, we can tell that it is getting harder to maintain
order while the world falls apart, but the station is going to keep broadcasting the news for as long as it can.
The details of the end sequence will remain unpublished.
