| Contradictions by J. Estelle Newlin |

How can you create lies, then believe they are the truth? How can you treat a life like a material thing? Do you honestly think that tears solve a problem? How can you sit and listen to the music, but not sing? How come people say they love you, but then they break your heart? How come people think that lies simply disappear? Can a kiss really end a love? Why do the smallest and most trivial things bring us fear? If True love conquers all they say, Then why can hate consume us so easily? Money cannot buy happiness, Try and tell that to someone who is needy. If Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Why then does everbody focus on appearance? They say with age comes knowledge, Then why do our elders obsess with their preseverance? Blood is thicker than water, But why then do people choose flesh over family? If Seeing is believing, Then why do we have the notion to be so naive? Nothing lasts forever, But why then do we lie to ourselves, thinking nothing bad will ever happen? If music soothes the savage beast, Then why can a song bring a memory that leaves the tears starting? If God is love, Then why is it so easy to loose your faith? Free hearts cannot be tamed, But then we go and lock out hearts in a cage. If one is the lonliest number, But why then does two make you feel more alone than before. Feeling makes you only "human", But feeling brings pain, and soon you are numb without a core. If Violence doesn't solve anything, Then why do we fight wars to prove out dominance? They tell you to have pride in yourselves, But how then do most failures result from overconfidence? How can you touch so many hearts with your feelings, But find it hard to put your trust in others? Why do we try so hard to be heard, When we know those who never stop listening are our mothers? And why is the biggest mystery so easy to solve? Why do we spend our time with a head full of fiction? And why is it so hard to realize, That life is the eternal Contradiction. (copyright J. Estelle Newlin) |
