BELGIUM 0-2 BRAZIL

BRAZIL - looking a pale shadow of the team we know they can be - took their time before brushing Belgium aside with a couple of late strikes by Rivaldo and Ronaldo.

Instead of hiding in their shells and playing negative football, Belgium took the game to their more illustrious opponents, and at the very least, deserved a goal to show for their efforts.

Skipper Marc Wilmots - who has scored in every game so far - had a 34th-minute header mysteriously ruled out, with a very subtle push on the back of Roque Junior the only tangible infringement.

With excellent Belgian defending keeping Brazil's multi-talented strikeforce quiet, it took a slice of good fortune to finally beat Geert de Vlieger in the 67th minute.

Ronaldinho's right-wing cross was chested down by Rivaldo 20 yards out, who turned, flicked it up and then struck a volley that took a fortunate deflection off Timmy Simons before flying into the top corner.

With Belgium continuing to press for an equaliser, Brazil netted a flattering second when Ronaldo rounded off a counter-attack by nutmegging de Vlieger with three minutes to go.

Several members of the England squad were spotted in the crowd as Sven Goran Eriksson took the opportunity to make some notes on England's next opponents on Friday.
