Divination

Welcome To Divination

This is an area of magic that many of you will not be able to understand. It
is not something you can not learn from a book instead you have to rely
on your inner eye to help you succeed here. You must open yourself to
the unknown and free your mind, go beyond materialistic existence and
look into the mists.
All I can do for you in this class is help you open your inner eye.
Grading will be done by looking at how much you have grown and seen
into the mists. We will start your experience with Cards, Tarot cards
mainly.

The history of tarot cards is unknown and widely debated. Some say they originated in
Egypt and their name is a corruption of Thoth, the ancient Egyptian god of magic, On the
other hand some say the Tarot cards began in China, India, or ancient Greece. There is
evidence that the cards existed in fourteenth-century Germany, Belgium, and France (the
word Tarot is the French name for the cards) but the first reference to the Tarot as
we know it, with its major and minor arcanas, was in Italy during the fifteenth century.

There is no rule about acquiring tarot cards. Superstition holds that it is unlucky to buy
your own cards or, conversely, that it is equally unlucky to be given them. Buy them for
yourself or others, and receive them with grace. The essential part with working with the
cards it to choose those that instinctively appeal to you.

When working with a new deck of cards, it is important that you become familiar with
them. Some tarot readers suggest sleeping with your cards under your pillow for the first seven
days that they are brought into your hone. This is one of the ways I suggest for you to
get to know your own deck. Or you may study each card individually and look up its
associated interpretation. Take note of those cards with which you feel less comfortable, and
consider their positive meanings. Quite often, these are the bad cards, such as The
Tower, Death, or the Devil. However, even those cards that appear unfortunate usually
have a good side, offering insight and a constructive way to deal with even the worst circumstances.

Finally, it is important that you dissuade other people to play with your cards, particularly
when you are bonding with a new deck. The cards are sensitive to your energies,
so the more you handle them, the more accurate your reading will be. Other
peoples energy can cause confusion. Therefore , always be the last person to touch them after a
reading. Keep your cards wrapped in a black or dark purple silk in a favorite bow when
they are not being used. Always care for your cards and treat them with respect. Many
of you may not have your cards yet but I urge you to take the time and go out and buy
one. It is important because the first two months of this class we will be spent studying them closely.

Your assignment which you will be starting today will end up to be your very own Tarot
Book. Each day you will study two cards, sleep with them under your pillow, read up
and or interpret them. You must write down your findings and as we progress you will
add more and more to each parchment. Once you have collected information on each
card you will make a good copy. I will provide you with hardcover, blank notebooks
in which you will draw the card and put your information together into a
presentable state. The second book I will prove you with you will use for writind down your tarot
readings along with different tarot spreads that I will teach you and that you will come
up with yourself.

Each day we will study two cards out of the deck in class, I will give you information, and
a tarot spread. You need to add onto what I tell you for that is only the basics. I will
not accept your books if you have not added at least a page of your thoughts and
information. Having said that, today we will look at the Fool (0) and The Magician (I)as well as one of the most simple and popular tarot spreads.

The Fool

The Magician

A Three-Card Reading

Please remember to start on your assignment. If you miss one day of working it
will be very hard to catch up when the final piece is due. Also If you
have not yet purchased a Tarot deck please do so as soon as possible
or you will not be able to do much in this class. Tomorow, I will
see what you have added to your notes (remember at least a page),
share some ideas, look at the next two cards in the deck (The High Priestess
and The Empress) and practice doing readings for each other.

You are Dismissed!
