| Massachusetts is stuck in a battle concerning gays having the right to marry. Gays want their unions to be legally acknowledged so that they can reap the benefits that married straight couples share. If the state of Massachusetts wanted a mess on their hands they went all out to acheive it. The ruling for gay marriage if allowed will spill over into other areas and also other states. I dont think there is a problem. Simply put, gays dont need acknowledged marriages. If two individuals want to live together and become monagomous then they should have the right to do so. There should be an amendment to the domestic partnership laws that allows for gays and people of alternative lifestyles that will permit them to share benefits and leave estates. I dont understand why it would be so difficult to make such an amendment, but I understand that some people make simple tasks impossible. Marriage was instituted to legitimize the birth of children between a man and a woman. Those children born out of wedlock were considered bastards and were frowned upon. The institution of marriage despite the changing times and the morality of the people entering into it has remained intact. No matter how many unfit couples marry, the intitution of marriage will always remain what it was intended to be and that is a method to legitimize the children of men and women. Homosexuals and lesbians are trying to redefine this long standing instution by requesting the right to marry. lets take a look at this request. We have a population that amounts to one-half of one percent asking to have their relationships recognized by the majority. The reason for the desire to be married is to obtain rights to healthcare and estate rights for loved ones. I am all for allowing domestic partners to have these rights but not even heterosexuals get married to obtain such privileges. I believe this act by some homosexuals and lesbians make a mockery of marriage and is just the gateway for more demands to be placed on the majority. Gay individuals have the right to live with anyone they choose and have all the rights that straight individuals have. But I believe that when they choose to be recgnized for their sexuality rather than to be seen as huiman beings they encounter resistance. By all means do not think that I dismiss the fact that some people hate the Gay lifestyle and choose not to tolerate it, but those people need to worry about how they live their own lives. But I must also state that an individuals sexuality should be kept to themselves and not worn on their sleeve for all to see and judge. Whether it is a heterosexual or a homosexual society is better off not knowing your sexual preference or what happens behind your closed doors. Those that enter this forbidden zone open themselves to ridicule and judgement by those that may not agree with your behavior. I truly believe no one wants to discuss the gay issue on a subjective level. If you are against gays you are labeled "Homophobic", which is so misused that it has lost any effective meaning. If you are for gays you are immoral and god is going to curse you or something worse according to some Christians and the Christian Right. Two extreme sides will never come to see the middle ground on this issue. Whether you agree with the lifestyle that gays live is irrelevant, but if you are for freedom of the individual in this country you have to allow compromise. Gays should be allowed to live where they please and with whom they please. We are talking about consenting adults that have made the conscious decision to live together and they should share the same benefits of other monogamous couples. Does that mean that I support the gay agenda? No it does not, but it simply means that I support the pursuits of the individual and the rights of individuals. If you deny rights to any individual in this country you can be assured that your rights will be in jeopardy as well. |
