Abortion
Abortion is an issue that no matter which angle you decide to take, you are bound to anger someone.  In this discussion I would like to remove all of the emotion of the issue and take an objective look at the two sides.  First, I will start with the Pro-life advocates that believe that no one should be allowed to have an abortion no matter the situation whether it is rape or otherwise.  This side suggests that adoption is a reasonable choice if one doesn't want to keep a child.  Pro-lifers also believe that an embyro is a living being and that it is murder to abort the unborn fetus.  Personally, I have no arguements with this stand and would have to agree.  On the other side we have Pro-choice advocates. This group believes that an individual has the right to make the choice of whether to have an abortion or not to have an abortion.  This stance is usually ignored by fanatics that want to characterize Pro-choice advocates as "Baby killers". The problem that Pro-choice and Pro-life groups face is that both harbor extremists that hurt their cause.  Whether you are killing doctors or justifying those that use abortion as a form of contraceptive, you hurt your cause.  Do I agree with Pro-choice? Of course I do and why wouldn't I?  I believe in the individual, which coincides with American beliefs.  The belief that all have the right to make choices that affect their own lives, but not infringe on the lives of others.  I do not advocate abortion, but it is not my right to force another to not have one whether I agree with it or not.  Our individual rights begin and end with us.  The extremists of the Pro-lifers profess saving lives of unborn children while taking lives of the living.  Is that not hypocrisy? Pro-choice extremist profess the right of choice but defend those that abuse the choices they have.  Choice begins the moment you decide to lay down and engage in intercourse, not after you conceive.  Individual responsibilty needs to be the focus before the act not afterwards.  I believe that both sides are encompassed in the pro-choice movement but this gets lost with rhetoric and mischaracterizations.  Showing someone pictures of mutilated fetuses doesn't make the hard decision to abort a child any easier, but teaching others to be responsible prevents them from having to make that choice.
