Rubric For Reading Log

Grade A Level 4: Your flame for excellence burns Bright. 
_____Worth 50 Points: All reading assignments for class done for the week.  On nights with no reading assignments 30 minutes is spent reading.  Student reads on every school night, 5 nights.
_____ Worth 25 Points: Student explores one literary term found in what they have read in a clear and understandable paragraph. A minimum of 5 explorations required in writer’s notebook.
_____ Worth 15 Points: Student reacts to reading that they have read in a reflective paragraph.  A minimum of 5 reflections required in writer’s notebook. At least 3 to 4 sentences in reflection, if student wishes to receive full credit.
______Worth 10 Points: Student finds anywhere from 10 new vocabulary words in text, which equals two a night and defines on log.  If no new words are in text use your dictionary and find two new words in it.
______Worth 5 Points: Student records on table of contents page reading log and turns in on Friday of every week.  A minimum of 5 entries required on log.  Parent signs reading log, which confirms reading done.

Grade B Level 3: You have a fire for learning waiting to be ignited.
_____Worth 43 Points: All reading assignments for class done for the week.  On nights with no reading assignment 30 minutes is spent reading.  Student reads on 4 of the 5 school nights.
_____Worth 22 Points: Student explores one literary term found in what they have read in a clear and understandable paragraph. A minimum of 4 explorations required in writer’s notebook.
_____Worth 13 Points: Student reacts to reading that they have read in a reflectiveparagraph.  A minimum of 4 reflections required in writer’s notebook.  At least 3 to 4 sentences in reflection, if student wishes to receive fullcredit.
_____Worth 9 points: Student finds anywhere from 8 new vocabulary words in text, which equals 1 or 2 a night and defines, on log.  If no new words are in text use your dictionary to find two new words in it.
_____Worth 5 points: Student records on table of contents page reading log and turns in on Friday of every week.  A minimum of 4 entries required on log. Parent signs reading log, which confirms reading done.

   Grade C Level 2: There is a draft here.  Are you ready to turn on the heat?
_____Worth 36 Points: All reading assignments for class done for the week.  On nights with no reading assignment 30 minutes is spent reading.  Student reads on 3 out of the 5 school nights.
_____Worth 19 Points: Student explores one literary term found in what they have read in a clear and understandable paragraph. A minimum of 3 explorations required in writer’s notebook. 
_____Worth 11 Points: Student reacts to reading that they have read in a reflectiveparagraph.  A minimum of 3 reflections required in writer’s notebook.  At least 3 to 4 sentences in reflection, if student wishes to receive fullcredit.
_____Worth 8 points: Student finds anywhere from 6 vocabulary words in text, which equals 1 a night and defines, on log.  If no new words are in text use your dictionary to find two new words in it.
_____Worth 5 points student records reading information onto reading log and turns in on Friday of every week.  A minimum of three entries required on log.  Parent signs reading log, which confirms reading done.

Anything below this is a choice on your part to receive a D or an F.  All reading journals are due on Friday.  As part of your bell work, you may work on your reading journal, but it is ultimately your responsibility to finish it at home what you do not complete in class.  All late work is marked down two points a day for up to a week, any zeros over a week old could require you to attend a study hall after school.
