TrailBlazer Mirror Turn Signal Lenses

Many new vehicles feature Turn Signals built into the Mirrors for added safety especially on the freeway. There are a few technical articles on the installation of the Mirror Turn signals online, such as the one at Trailvoy.com. Two different styles of Lenses are available, the Amber, and the new Clear ( Smoked ) lens. If you already have the Amber lenses, the Clear are a simple swap, otherwise, it is not difficult to add turn signals to the Mirrors.

The original Mirror housing is shown in Black plastic, with no Turn signal lens on the Mirror. To remove the lower plastic lens, the Mirror is pushed forward to reveal one screw which may be removed with a T10 Torx Bit. I would suggest holding the lens in place while removing it so you dont drop it. To wire up the lens, the interior door panel and MIrror will need to be removed. The interior panel is taken off by removing the button assembly, door handle trim, and two 10mm bolts near the Door handle. The Mirror is removed from the door by taking off the 3 nuts after the panel has been removed.

To get more access to run a wire through the Mirror housing, I have removed the Mirror, by pushing it in the corner, and carefully removing it. If you have heated mirrors, there are some small wires attached to the Mirror. Once the Mirror is removed, the outer Mirror housing may be taken off, it is held in place with a few plastic clips.

To route the wires through the Mirror and into the vehicle, a small hole has been drilled in the aluminum mount. It must be in a position so that it will be clear of any movement made by the mirror housing. There are only two wires necessary to make the light work, a power and a ground. They are attached to the Lightbulb on the Lens with a Female electrical connector, and routed through the mirror and into the vehicle to the wire harness to the Window buttons. The wire should have enough slack to be free to move with the mirror housing and this should be checked before tying the wires in with the existing wire harness.

While the outside Mirror housing was removed, I decided to paint it to match the rest of the TrailBlazer, which is also a feature on the SS TrailBlazer. The wires that will supply power to the turn signal lens are already on the Door Harness regardless of which Model the TrailBlazer is. The power wire is a Light Blue on the Driver's Side and Dark Blue on the Passanger Side. The Thick black wire is used for a Ground. These should be checked with a test Light or a Digital Multimeter prior to the final Splicing of the wires to ensure the correct leads are tapped into and that they will work properly.
