TrailBlazer Hood Lamp Install
Most new vehicles come with an added convenience light featured under the hood which turns on when the hood is opened. Some of the first TrailBlazers came with this Lamp assembly and the later models did not. So I have added the light to help out just in case it is necessary to look under the hood when it is dark outside. The cost is fairly low and it is relatively easy to install.

The Hood liner has a recessed section where the lamp is supposed to be mounted. There are two mounting holes already punched into the hood underneath the liner. They are located with a small flat blade screwdriver and pressed through, clearing enough of the liner away so the lamp will be able to clip into the mounting holes.
Here is a view of the Lamp, and the Connector to wire it up. It was necessary to use a little more wire to splice into a power source. The Connector comes with crimp connections which can be used, or they can be soldered together and shrink heat tubing may be used for a more secure waterproof connection.
The Lamp is simply popped into place under the hood, and the wire connector has been installed. I have used some wire loom to match the factory wiring. The ground wire has been installed onto the pre-existing ground on the hood. The power wire was ran directly to the 12 volt power source on the fuse box. It may also be wired onto a power source in the fuse box which has a delayed timer, that will deactivate after a few minutes after the vehicle has been shut off. For convenience, I did not choose to use this wire. If it is necessary to leave the hood open for an extended period of time, the connector may be unplugged from the Lamp to conserve power. The Lamp features an Inertia switch which activates when the lamp is in an upright position and turns off when it is closed. Over time this connection may become dirty or contaminated, and may be opened to clean the ball and contact assemblies so the light works properly.
