| David Foster, the multi-award-winning music producer and former member of Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins' band, The Hawks, has been making a concerted effort along with his ex-wife (and fellow ex-Hawk), B.J. Cook, to get Ronnie (an Arkansas native, but a resident of Canada since the late '50s) awarded the prestigious Order Of Canada. Recent media stories concerning Ronnie's health and life-saving operation brought the Foster/Cook effort on behalf of Ronnie to light. The news had been suppressed since last March, when media first found out about the OOC push for Ronnie, deciding to exploit the info recently when they felt, wrongly so, that Ronnie was on his deathbed. A successful operation and a speedy recovery has the Hawk rockin' 'n rollin' to good health again. All of us who know and love the Hawk wish Foster and Cook the best in helping to make this dream come true for Ronnie. The Order Of Canada guidelines allow five recipients a year who weren't born in Canada to receive the prestigious OOC. If Ronnie receives it, his won't be the first for someone not born in Canada. From what I've heard, the Hawk is getting a real kick out of all the hoopla over the OOC and also about the tentative Gathering of The Hawks, intended to create a warm gathering of Ronnie and his old friends so they can share some old memories and create some new ones. This is strictly a private event. [...] Word as of now is that there will be a concert sometime in October for the public. Stay tuned to this reporter for the announced location. For now, let's just rock where we rock and be happy that Ronnie's health is getting better all the time. ADDED NOTE: The final proofs will be back from the printers any day now for Ronnie's upcoming new CD, so I'll be sending more info about that Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins musical news as soon as I get it!
