| THE REVERB ROCKERS REVERBERATED SOUNDLY! | ||||||||||||||||
| At the Saturday afternoon Southside Shuffle of the 2001 Port Credit Blues & Jazz Festival, while unsuccessfully seeking out Slowpoke (billed as front porch blues), I ended up finding The Reverb Rockers instead (who were actually on my list of gigs to check out just because of their intriguing name), who were making some "big noise" in front of Windermere. Comprised of James McInnis on delirious bass runs, harmonica and vocals, Kevin Peterson on "hot-licks" lead guitar and vocals and Glenn Brandt on smack-down drums and harmonious back-up vocals, this trio could be the next Blood, Sweat and Tears (with some added brass), especially with James' vocals reminding me of David Clayton-Thomas. I heard several excellent originals, among them "Born Again Boogie", inspired by a Reverend Gene Scott, which takes a poke at commercial evangelism. Their manager, Kim Kelly (a.k.a. "The Commander"), apparently formerly managed the Goddo triumvirate and was involved in a project called "Jammin' with Gino Scarpelli", among some other high-profile deals. Hmm, I'll have to do some more research here. In any case, The Reverb Rockers also have a brand-new CD, "Nickel Plated Blues", which follows their debut/promo CD, "Bootleg Blues". I'm finding "Nickel Plated Blues" to be highly enjoyable for its wide diversity of blues music! | ||||||||||||||||
