Lubos Bena is a singer and resophonic guitar player, born in Skalica, Slovakia. What makes this town well known is not exclusively the excellent wine but also its location (Zahorie), the place where the Dopyera family - the resophonic guitar inventors - had their roots. Lubos' playing and singing, accompanied with rhythmical stepping, resembles the style of Mississippi Delta blues. At the beginning of the year 2001 he recorded his first CD, called Solo, and a year later, his second, called Handmade Music. Apart from participating at various concerts, he successfully performed at the international musical festival Dobrofest Trnava and Blues Slovakia Festival, where the Slovak Blues Association awarded him a prize for "Best Newcomer of the Year (2001)". He prefers steel-body guitars (Amistar) and his concerts are abundant in interesting information on the history of resophonic guitars. Workshops are also available.
Karel Charlie Slavik, a mouth-harp player, is considered to be the most technically skillful player in the Czech Republic. He has been performing country and blues music for many years. He was awarded several prizes by the Czech Bluegrass Association. He is fond of '50s music and is the frontman of the Prague rockabilly and jumping blues band Highway 61. His idols are the following harp players: Little Walter, Big Walter Horton and Sonny Terry.
The sounds of resophonic guitar, typical bottleneck style, and the sound of harp, which are characteristic for this band, will remind you of old times of the Mississippi Delta bluesmen. The repertoire of this band consists of blues classics and their own arrangements of songs.
