GM Paterson is a rising national country music star, with a home base in the Greater Hamilton Area.  Apart from his musical endeavours as a singer-songwriter-guitarist, he is also a truck-driving cattleman.  Blue Angel Productions, his management company, has scored a CD distribution deal with CD Baby, Sarnina Service Centre as well as the Fifth Wheel Truck Stop franchise, and a deal is in the works for a sponsorship with Western Star, appropriately enough, as this is his preferred choice of vehicle.

Contrary to the common stereotype of truckers and cowboys as being rough and having somewhat limited intellectual capacities, GM puts all that nonsense to rest with some well-articulated, mannerly responses and a bemused perception of his (female) fans.  Check out this "western star" yourself at the Gladstone Country Show Place in Hamilton on October 24-25/03.  For upcoming gigs, his website is at
www.gmpaterson.com.

DW: You bill yourself as "high energy" country, and yet on the
Overdrive CD, there are very few tracks that could even be considered uptempo.  Have you had any feedback on that, negative or positive, or does the "high energy" description apply more to your live performances?

GM: First of all, it's great to hear from you and I look forward to answering your questions.

On the
Overdrive CD there is a mix of ballads and uptempo compositions.  Track 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11 are uptempo, so I don't quite understand the question.

Country Rock is a wide genre, and uptempo beats, I guess, are viewed differently by different people.  My stage show is high energy as far as Country Rock is concerned - compared to Metallica, it would probably be viewed differently.

DW:  Yes, you are right, GM - "uptempo" is a relative term, of course, especially compared to punk rock, for example.
