POETRY AND AEROPLANES -
TEITUR
The operative words for this one-dimensional collection of wistful pop-folk ballads are mellow, mellower and mellowest.  Fortunately, Teitur Lassen is blessed with syrupy-smooth vocals cut from the same swath as Paul Simon, which make each individual track go down as easily as a shot of Baileys Irish Cream.  It is the kind of record you would want to play in order to calm yourself or your hyped-up children on a restless night a dose of musical Valium, if you will, but with a possibility of overdose.

Im fairly sure I havent heard any of these songs before, but there is an almost instant sense of familiarity, especially on the opening track, Sleeping with the Light On, one of several collaborations with Matt Bronleewe).  Jeff Cohen, Annette Bjergfeldt and Michael Ochs also share writing credits with Teitur.

The fantastical romantic silhouette captured in these intelligibly poetic compositions reflects an elusive, lost at sea quality most likely originating from a youth spent traversing from the remote Faroe Islands to the metropolitan environments of Copenhagen, New and London.

The production itself (by Rupert Hines, who also performs on piano) is of excellent quality, and although the exquisitely subtle backing instrumentation was overdubbed, its certainly not overblown.  It succeeds splendidly in retaining Teiturs simple, straightforward quest for truth in love and life itself.

Although, at 25 years of age, Teitur claims to be a little Rough Around the Edges, he has not yet lost the optimistic time-warp of the true dreamer and thats a good thing.
