| YOUASKEDFORIT - SHAWN BRUSH (continued from previous page) |
| Speaking of Internet communication, Mr. Brush recently discovered a website (that will go unnamed for obvious reasons) that is illegally selling unauthorized copies of his (and other musicians' entire CDs), which is no doubt quite upsetting to an unsponsored artist, even if it is a back-handed compliment at the same time. To legally purchase this or any other of his CDs, visit www.shawnbrush.com or contact him personally at [email protected]. From the opening track, "Seasons", his prowess as a witty, insightful lyricist and flat-picking guitarist (on steel and regular acoustic) right through to the closing "The Shadow" is evident. There is an even selection of both slow and fast-tempo songs, as well as short little zingers ("40 Thieve" and "Baby Blue") mixed in with longer masterpieces like "Who's Gonna Love Me" and "Stay". One of Shawn's heroes, Willie Nelson, is paid an introductory tribute on "Jacket and Jeans". In that same vein, Shawn demonstrates his affection for roots-blues music on "Shuffle Your Feet", "The Beach Strip Blues", as well as "My Dog Bill", which he refers to as "Texas Swing", a genre Willie himself pays tribute to on his latest collaboration with Ray Price (Run That By Me One More Time). A very engaging vocalist who sings with conviction (and excellent enunciation!), Shawn has wisely enlisted the audio-technical aid of producer-bassist-vocalist Carl Jennings (of Freedom Train), along with Lucas Duguid, Mike Eastman and Bob Lanois, who provided graphic and photographic decoration. Since he has already more than proven his ability to craft a solid tune at the drop of a cowboy hat, the next logical step in his sound is to record these or subsequent compositions with accompanying instruments. |
