CD REVIEW
ON THE LOOSE
- RAVEN HUMPHRES
(CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE)

Speaking of them dirty blues, Town Crier, a Kevin Wallace composition on which he provides both lead and bass guitar as well as vocals (although theyre a bit draggy), is a perfect example, which also gives dynamite drummer Pete Langhans a chance to slow down a bit before going into the tom-tom routine on the swinging You Name It, with guest performers Chris Carlson on guitar and Richard Evans on bass and keys.  Along with many other guests, Hank Yanda (now with Nicole Fournier & Her 3-Lb. Universe) and recording artist Duffy Bishop, on It Takes Two, also contribute on the CD.

The CD is brought to a close with a cheerful showboat instrumental called Ravens Rag (for obvious reasons).

Although Raven Humphres has a long history of performing all different kinds of music, which is strongly reflected in this CD, he curiously cites the late blind (and immensely eccentric) multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan (Rashaan) Roland Kirk (Inflated Tear) as a major influence.
