| GREGG DANTON - GREGG DANTON (DEMO EP) |
| Apart from the nagging vocal similarity to the baritone gruffness of Jeff G (Graydon), the first of three tracks on this demo CD, Twistertown, is perfectly listenable a mid-tempo blues-rock composition featuring Les Lewellyn on lead guitar, Terry Crawford on drums and Gregg Danton on blues harmonica and rhythm guitar. It address the issue of resigning oneself to ones fate or fighting against it by drawing an analogy to the storm-ravaged citizens of the American Midwest citizen in their trailer parks and their stubborn resistance to what Mother Nature inflicts upon them.
Lose The Shoes, with its infectious funky rhythm and sassy saxophone break (played by Gregg), is a slightly superficial criticism of the otherwise perfectly sexy victim of fashion. Just The Fire is a perky little boogie-blues that is as equally danceable as the preceding tracks. Im not exactly sure what hes singing about, but the impression I get is of a physical attraction going on but with a doubt as to whether there is any other substance to the relationship in question. The three songs are pleasant enough to bear repeated listens, and Danton actually shows a great deal of potential as a songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist, especially as he keeps well within the limits of his vocal range. I believe this demo recording was made a couple of years ago, so Im looking forward to hearing a full complement of tracks from this Ancaster-based Canadian musician. |
