| 'Perfect', the first single from Danny Michel's latest album, following up 2001's In the Belly of the Whale, sums up the experience of listening to Tales From the Invisible Man. After dropping out of the music scene for close to a year to hang at his home outside of Guelph, Ontario, Danny is back with a bevy of nostalgic and easy-flowing tracks about love, enjoying the moment and even a ballad about working in a mine! Danny is totally "hands on" having written, produced, recorded, engineered, edited, programmed and mixed the entire album at his home studio. And he also plays all the instruments on the disc, with a few exceptions. Presently touring the album with a full band, listeners will get to experience both sides of Danny's persona: the folkie stripped-down side with Tales and a more rocking edge with his live show. Aside from 'Perfect', which is a beautiful flowing song that urges people to live in the moment, all of the other tracks have their unique merits. There are no lulls, filler or snore-inducing cuts on this disc. 'Two Hearts' is a fun ode to being raised in the 70s, complete with reference to Farrah Fawcett Majors, and 'The Luckiest Man in the World' is a dreamy tale, augmented by Kevin Fox's cello playing, about a woman who is hooked up with a guy who doesn't deserve her (but Danny on the other hand, does). Tales ends on a relaxing note with 'Oh Francisco', a gentle and somewhat sad lullaby. All in all, a great disc to enjoy during those laid-back moments. |
