To Kill a Mocking Bird Chapter 4 1. Who is Mrs. Dubose? She is an mean old lady 2. What gifts do Scout and Jem find in the tree? They find gum and a box containing Indian head pennies. 3. What happened when Jem pushes Scout in a tire? Scout falls out and stumbles to the front of the Boo Radley place. 4. Describe the game Scout, Jem, and DIll play that summer? They played a game that tells the life of Boo Radley. Dill was Boo. Scout was Mrs. Radley. Jem was any other character needed. 5. Why is Scout glad to quit the game? She was afriad that Boo would hear them and do something bad to them. Chapter 5 1. How did Scout's relationship with the two boys begin to change? They began to ignor her unless her part of the game was absolutely needed. It was because of her different gender and she is turning into more of a lady. 2. Describe Miss Maudie. She is a widow that hates being indoors. She spends much of her time out in her garden with her flowers. 3. How do you suppose Miss Maudie feels about Boo Radley? She doesn't like to talk about him. They must have had a past together that she regrets. She doesn't talk about hiim at all. 4. What is a "foot washer"? A foot washer is a person that follows and believe in God so much that it is as if God washed their feet or they washed God's feet. 5. What does Miss Maudie mean on page 49 when she says," ....but sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of -oh, your father"? Sometimes there a relgious beings who believe and folloe the Bible so much that they do nothing else. They don't care for anything and are brainwashed by it. Much like whiskey would do to the mind when they drink too much. 6. How do the three kids get into trouble at the end of the chapter? Atticus didin't like their idea of a game that has to do with Boo Radley. He stops them from continuing to play and tells them not to play again. Atticus did not want the kids to disrespect Boo. Chapter 6 1. What is the children's plan for Dill's last night in Maycomb? They decided to go to the Boo Radley place and see if they can see Boo through the window. 2. How does Jem lose his pants? He was frightened by a gunshot as he held the fence open for Dill and Scout to run and got caught by the fence. He left his pants and ran away. 3. Why do the kids watch for Mr. Avery? Mr. Avery fired the gun in the air to scare off a Negro. They were afraid he might fire at them if he found out they were sneaking around. 4. How does Dill's quick thinking keep them out of trouble? He tells Atticus that Jem's pants were missing because he won them through a game of strip poker. Atticus just told them to settle it and go to bed. |
