Metis: Greek myth, goddess of Prudence and a titan, known for her intelligence. Favored by Zeus but the oracle predicted that she would give birth to intelligent children and a son who would dethrone his father, therefore Zeus left her alone. In some versions Zeus, in the shape of a bird, swallows Metis while she is in the shape of a fly, with the result that their child Athena is born through Zeus's own head some time later as Metis was already pregnant. Another version says she married a king and her son did indeed kill his father.
