Lamia: Either a benevolent water spirit or mermaid in Basque stories. Or the Greek vampire who stole children and drank their blood, often depicted as a snakelike creature with the breast and head of a woman. She was a Libyan Queen who fell in love with Zeus, upon which Hera deformed her into a monster and murdered her children. She also cursed Lamia to never be able to close her eyes and would thus never be able to stop obsessing over the murder of her children. Zeus saw what had been done and out of pity gave her the ability to remove her eyes and thus rest from her misfortune.
Medea: In Greek myth a devotee of Hecate, daughter to the king of Colchis, granddaughter to Helios, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She fell in love with Jason and helped him steal the golden fleece, killed her brother, the king of Pelias, and their two children once Jason left her for another woman, the princess of Corinth, who she also killed, along with the king. She married the king of Athens, gave birth to a son and tried to trick her new husband to poison his first son, but failed. She fled Athens with her son, who later became king in a country later called Media.
Badb: Also spelled Badhbh or Bodhbh. 'Crow', 'fury'. In Celtic mythology a goddess of war who haunted the battlefield, encouraged battle and confused the warriors with her sorcery, but rarely fought herself. A messenger of death.
