Mary Ann was born on October 20, 1987~our fourth child, youngest daughter, and baby of the family.
She was born on Dennis's birthday and named after his sister Mary Ann, who died at the age of 5 years from leukemia.
For the second time our doctor warned us to refrain from extending our family since I recently had a c-section and he was concerned about a rupture. But with many prayers, my will to have children, and defying doctors orders, I delivered a precious baby girl 14 months and 4 days after brother Jon's birth.
Mary developed jaundice as did her 3 other siblings, but hers was much worse. A nurse came to our home everyday to care for Mary until she was 2 weeks old. She was such a good-natured baby and always happy around her family, yet terrified of strangers. However, she would let anyone hold her if they were dressed up in an animal costume.
Of our 4 children Mary is the greatest animal lover. Living on a farm she had a wide variety of pets to care for and she could tame any critter we had; her lamb "Lamb Chop" was the tamest of all our lambs,
her guinea pig "Piglet" was the tamest of all our guinea pigs, and she turned our "out-of-control" parakeet into a meek and humble little creature. One day we heard an animal screaming outdoors; Mary ran outside to see what all the commotion was about and she retrieved a baby bunny from being suffocated by a large fox snake. That same day she jumped in the pond fully dressed to save a baby bunny from drowning, possibly that same bunny!!
Dennis and I homeschooled Mary her freshman and sophomore years. She graduated from Lake High School and Penta Career Center in 2006.
At Penta she completed 2 years of Culinary Arts, and she created a gingerbread house that was sent to the finals in North Carolina.

This essay talks about my goal. My goal has been the same for years, and will be the same for a very long time. It is to be the best person I can be, work hard in school, and make lots of friends.
To be the best person I can be isn't very hard. I follow my heart about 99% of the time. I try to be really polite to other people, and use body language, like smiles, to show that I care. My role models are my parents, who helped me find my goal. They raised me really well, and were always there for me, even when I didn't need them.
I'm the kind of person that doesn't care what other people think about me. If someone is mean to me, I try to ignore them and get on with my life. That is a big part of my goal. There are always going to be people out there that are mean. I just like to think that they were raised in a bad life and let too many things get to them. I don't want that to happen to me.
Another part of my goal is to work hard in school. I try very hard to manage a 4.0 GPA. There are alot of kids out there who don't care about school. It's very important. My goal is to just do my best. I try not to let a bad grade put me down. I just push harder next time, and it makes me happy to know that I did the best that I could.
The final part of my goal is to make as many friends as I can. It feels really good when a friend calls me, because I know that they're taking their time to talk to me.
I'm starting to accomplish a part of my goal that's really special. I'm making friends with people that don't have any and that need someone to trust and spend time with. I think that the less popular kids are the nicest, so I really try to be their friend.
My goal is probably alot more complex than most people's. But, it's a very special part of my life. It's not the kind of goal that you have to really work
hard for to accomplish. It's the kind that just takes a little thought and a lot of heart.
