1" YJ Shackle Lift

1" Shackle Lift to '95 YJ with 2-1/2" Rancho Lift - Total 3.5" of lift
First we had to remove the old shackle plates to install the new ones. Here in this picture you can see the old stock shackles that we will be replacing. This shackle is on the drivers side front. You can see the power steering gear box in upper left of the photo.
So of course out first step was to jack up the front axle to releive pressure on the leaf packs so we could remove the upper and lower shackle bolts with ease. We supported the frame with jackstands. We found no need to remove the tires. Be cautious here because some pressure may still need to be applied by the jack in order to remove the shackles easily.
Here are the loosened shackles ready to be removed. We tapped them out at far as we could with a hammer then we needed to use a crowbar to pry them out as seen in the next picture...
The next step after we intalled the front shackles was to jack up the rear and re-support the frame on jackstands. We then loosened the bolts and removed the rear shackles. Note the position of the gas tank and the lower bolt in this photo. The bolt slides from in to out (assembled at the Jeep plant).
Because of bad Jeep engineering, they put the in the bolts in-to-out so we couldnt remove the bolts beause the gas tank was in the way and of course we did not want to take the entire gas tank out, so we had to grind them out. In this photo you can see the sparks flying! Dont worry, new bolts were provided with the new shackles.
This picture features the passenger rear shackle installed. But of course we put the bolts back in from out to in! The rear shackles also came in boomarang form to ad better flex articulation. This is the completed passenger side. You can see the new shackle is a bit longer than the stock one above....
This is a completed side view of the YJ with the new shackles installed with a total of 3-1/2" lift. On the far left you can see the rear shackle. A next step would be and SOA to add even more inches and maybe some new 33" Boggers....

Here we needed the help of a crow bar because the lower bolt was being subbourn and woulnd comme out. We genlty pried the crow bar between the shakle and the leaf pack and the bolt popped out.
