4.0L Starter Motor Replacement
The first step is to remove the old starter:
-Be sure you have removed the red power cable from the + side of your battery.
-Next reach down to the old starter and loosen the retaining nuts that hold the gound and power cables on the starter. Then remove the cables.
-Next locate the bolts that hold the starter in place. There is one on the lower front (as seen in the pic to the left), and one in the upper back (as seen in the pic to the right)
Now the starter can be pulled gently away from the bell-housing. To the left you can see the opening where the starter gear rests in the bell-housing. Inside you can see the flywheel that the starter turns and the upper and lower threads for the bolts.

To the right is the old starter removed. You can see there is some slight corrosion to the body and the electrical connectors were in bad shape.
Installation of the new starter is just the reverse. First we cleaned the oily mess around the bell-housing and cleaned out electrical connectors. When you reconnect eletrical connectors that are in dirty places we recommend you use di-electric gease to ensure maximum performance.  Notice the nuts that hold the elctrical connectors to the left.

Once we mounted the new motor we connected the electrical cables then re connected the power cable to the + side of the battery and the engine started right up!
