Highlights also for the DDJAFL is the selection of players into Queensland country teams, then State teams and finally the selection of two Darling Downs players into the all-Australian team.

Football has been played on the Darling Downs since before World War 1 and by 1935, 6 teams regularly played. In 1970, the present league was formed, with at one stage 8 clubs playing regularly.

At the present time, the DDJAFL association provides competitions for  juniors from Toowoomba to Goondiwindi.

The DDJAFL has in excess of 300 players competing regularly during the winter. These players compete in Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 competitions and come from 6 clubs.

At Under 18 level all players have combined to form the Darling Downs Crows who play in the Under 19 competition of the BJAFL.

In 1999, Under 12, 14 and 16 representative sides were selected, coached and played against the Bundaberg - Wide Bay league.

Our Under 12 representative team competed for the Darling Downs in the Queensland Primary School's AFL carnival.

The Associations, through the R.D.O. also support a growing school’s competition.

This Primary School competition has been very successful and together with the Secondary School's competition as well as visits by the Regional Development Officer indicate that over 1000 students have been introduced to the game in 1999. Over 28 primary and secondary schools have been involved.
