Everything was going
terribly wrong. After Justin had hissed at her, claiming she was having an
affair with JC, Elizabeth had slapped him and ran out of the house.
Nobody has seen her since. And that
was over twelve hours ago.
Justin wasn’t worrying though too much
since it looked like things were over between them. He had been more than
convinced that she was cheating on him. Not only had she been spending way
too much time with JC, but he had learned from experience what certain signals
meant. And the signals he’d seen lately proved to him that Elizabeth wasn’t
being faithful to him.
How could they be so cold? Justin often
asked himself.
Anna was Elizabeth’s best friend and
JC’s wife. Didn’t they care that she could be gone at any moment? But that
would be perfect, wouldn’t it? Then they wouldn’t have to feel guilty for
sneaking around.
Justin normally didn’t jump to conclusions
so quickly, but the experience he’s had with girls, he knew that there was
no doubt about it. And he was sick and tired of being cheated on. And not
only that, his best friend had stabbed him in the back.
As Justin looked over the newest plans
for the tour, JC was watching him from the other corner of the room. Elizabeth
had called him that morning, and had cried her eyes out telling him how Justin
claimed that they were having an affair, and how much it hurt her that he
could even think that.
After JC had finally managed to calm
Elizabeth down, he had told her he would try and talk to Justin. She had
said that wouldn’t work.
And it looked like she was right. Justin
had been giving JC dirty looks all morning when Justin thought it wasn’t
looking.
“What you looking at?” JC tried to
make conversation as he walked over to the table Justin was sitting at.
“Nothing,” that was the reply he received.
Hurt and anger sounded from Justin’s voice as he wouldn’t even look at JC.
JC sighed. “I seriously don’t understand
what’s with you lately, man. First you leave for days at a time without even
telling Elizabeth or us where you’re going. And the next thing I hear is
you snapped at Elizabeth, saying that me and her are having an affair. What
kind of drugs are you on?”
Justin whired around, his anger showing
as his face turned beat red. “I didn’t snap, okay? If you two weren’t fooling
around I wouldn’t have anything to be mad about.”
“We’re not having an affair! How stupid
are you?!” JC exploded.
“I’m not the one whose stupid,” Justin
replied. “Look at yourself in the mirror.” He laughed bitterly. “I’m not
the one whose wife is in the hospital and sleeping with my best friend’s
girl.”
“You know, this is absolutely ridiculous,
Justin. If you honestly think I would cheat on Anna, then you obviously don’t
know me very well.” JC was hurt that his so-called best friend could even
think that he would even consider seeing another woman, let alone his best
friend’s girlfriend. He had enough to deal with.
Didn’t Justin even think about him,
and how he might be feeling? For God sakes, he could lose his wife. How selfless
did Justin think he was?
JC was about to turn away, when Justin
spoke. “I wish I could believe you, JC. I know you love Anna, but I can’t
stop being afraid that I’m going to lose Elizabeth.”
When JC saw the tears in his friends’
eyes, he could see how hurt he was. But that didn’t change the fact that
he had accused JC of cheating on his own wife.
“And you think I would steal Elizabeth
away if I lose Anna?” He hated saying that, but if he did lose Anna, Justin
actually thought he would steal Elizabeth away? What kind of friend did that?
“I’m just afraid. I know I probably
sound stupid, but man, you don’t know how much I love her.” Justin didn’t
really know why he was so upset and angry, but he hated the way JC kept looking
at Elizabeth, and the way Elizabeth looked at JC, like they shared a special
bond.
“You think I don’t know? Do you remember
when I first met Anna?” At Justin’s nod, JC continued. “Every since then
I’ve been head over heels in love. There’s never been any other girl for
me, and there never will be. Elizabeth’s great, but she’s not Anna. And man,
you know me. I would never steal a girl from you, as you would never steal
a girl from me.”
Justin sighed, knowing JC was telling
the truth. They had been friends way too long. And they were way too close
for either of them to do something to hurt the other. And he knew Elizabeth.
He knew he spent too much time comparing to the other girls he’d dated before,
and he knew that wasn’t fair. He also knew how that made her feel.
“You’re right, JC. I’m sorry.” Justin
hung his head. And when he felt JC pull him into a hug, he hugged his friend
and band mate back tightly. “I feel so guilty. You’re going through this
really tough time and I’m accusing you of trying to steal my girlfriend.”
“I completely understand, J. I remember
getting mad at Joey when he tried to flirt with her. I really cussed him
out, and I felt so bad afterwards. So don’t sweat it. I’ll tell you this
though.” JC moved over and sat down on the chair beside Justin. “Just love
her while you can. Don’t take advantage of the time you have together. You
don’t know how much time you have with her.”
Justin looked back at the plans he
had been reading before, and scrunched them up into a ball. “I’m going to
go find her,” he said.
Before he could stand, JC pulled him
back. “I don’t think that’s a wise idea right now,” he said.
“Why not?” Justin’s face fell. Had
his words hurt her that much? He cringed at the thought that he had hurt
her, something he had promised her he would never do. This was the first
relationship he’d had that was based solely on love, and he didn’t want to
risk losing it. He loved Elizabeth too much.
Over the last year, he had grown to
really appreciate the bond they shared. She had been the first girl he loved,
and really trusted. They hadn't consummated their relationship, and it had
surprised him that she was happy just with what they had. Most of the other
girls he dated before wanted sex, but he wouldn’t want to be intimate with
them unless he was really in love with them.
“She left earlier this morning,” JC
replied. “But try not to worry, man. She said she’d come back for her stuff
later tonight.”
“She’d come back for her stuff?” Didn’t
that mean that she was planning on moving out? He'd been too busy worrying
about himself and his feelings that he hadn't realized just how badly he
had hurt her. And how the hell did JC know this? A pinch of jealousy hit
him once again, but he tried to not let it take him over completely.
“She said she was going to move back
home. But if you talk to her, you can convince her stay. And this time, don’t
yell at her. Tell her what you’re feeling,” JC said. “Tell her you’re sorry.
Tell her anything. Just don’t let her just walk away.”
“Where did she go?”
“Some old friend of her and Anna's,”
JC answered.
“Give me the address.”
He wasn’t going to just let Elizabeth
slip through his fingers. He had finally found his soulmate, and there was
nothing he wouldn’t do to get her back.
