No one could believe
it. JC's face had gained a little color, but he was not conscious.
But hopes were rising that he may survive,
even by some of the doctors who believed he might make it. Emma herself didn't
want to have high hopes, but she didn't want to have no hope at all.
She was still trying to get over learning
her feelings for JC. She couldn't believe how she felt. It made her more
scared if she lost JC. She couldn't wait to tell JC she loved him. She just
hoped she got the chance to.
She watched as his family sat by his
bedside, telling how that when he woke up there would be a big party.
She could see how truly loved JC was.
And not only his friends and family, but the fans too. Millions of letters
and gifts have been pouring in for him. It had just been announced less than
a week ago that JC had been in an accident, though it hadn’t been released
what exactly had happened.
She looked over and caught her sister
looking at her. When had Jenna gotten here? Emma smiled back just the same.
How could she have been the only person not to know how she felt about JC?
She figured it was just love playing
a trick on her.
Emma walked over to her sister. “What
are you doing here?” she asked, leading Jenna out into the waiting area.
“I came to see you. I'm trying to figure
out why you look so happy though,” Jenna said.
The last time they had seen each other,
Emma was all upset and she was saying she and JC were over. Everything now
had changed.
“Is JC doing any better?”
Emma nodded with a smile. “A little
better. He's gained some color. His family is in with him right now. You
can stick around for a while and see him if you'd like.”
Jenna grabbed Emma’s arm before her
sister could get away. “You’re so happy. What’s going on?”
Emma just smiled but cried a little
too. She was still so afraid she would lose JC, and now if that happened,
she didn't know if she'd ever be all right. “Can't I just be happy cause
a patient of mine might live?”
“But this is JC we're talking about,”
Jenna pointed out. “He cheated on you, you hate him. Or at least that’s what
you've been telling everyone.”
“I know. I did hate him, actually I
despised him, but I have no hate for him anymore.”
“What changed?” Jenna asked.
“Let's just say I finally realized
what has been in front of me all along,” Emma said with a little smile. “But
if he doesn't survive…”
“Don’t even think about that,” Jenna
interrupted. “JC’s going to be fine.”
“Don't say that please, not until I
know for sure he'll be fine and won’t die.” Emma looked over and saw JC's
family coming out. “I'm just glad that he has a chance.”
“Me too,” Jenna said.
“I can't believe I thought I didn't
still love him.” Emma sighed. She caught her sisters look. “Is it so hard
to believe that I actually came to my senses?”
“Kind of,” Jenna said. “I mean, you
were really angry. It’s understandable, though.”
“You bet it was.”
Jenna looked at her watch, realizing
she had to be somewhere. “I have to go. But we’ll talk later, okay?”
Emma watched her sister get into the
elevator. She turned around and sighed. She grabbed the chart then walked
into JC's room. She smiled when she saw the color of his face.
“You're looking better. Just hold on
for as long as you can. I love you.” It was getting easier to say.
Emma touched his cheek with her hand
then ran her hand through his hair. “You know I do, don't you?” She checked
his pulse and it was getting stronger.
She ran a few more tests on him, then
left to go and try and get a little sleep.
A few more days passed and JC still
wasn't conscious but he was getting more color on his face. The doctors had
come to the conclusion JC was in a coma and that hopefully he would come
out of it soon.
Emma prayed they were right. Not many
knew of her changed feelings about JC except for the guys and Jenna. She
was going to keep it that way until she told JC.
“Doctor?”
The doctor behind Emma turned around.
“Yes Emma?”
“Are you positive about this coma thing?
I just want to know the truth.”
He looked at her then paused for a
moment, then smiled. “I'm sure. He's gotten a lot of color back. We believe
that he'll be back with us very soon. Why don't you go home and rest?”
“I can't,” Emma said grabbing another
patients chart. “I won't leave his side. You know I refuse to.”
She started to walk away when she heard
the doctors voice again.
“I hope he knows how lucky he is to
have you.”
When Emma went back to check on JC
later that night, she realized just how lucky she was. She looked back on
the many private moments she and JC shared. It only reminded her how lucky
they both were when they found each other.
