Emma was back at
work working hard trying to forget what JC had said. Even now when he talked
she melted inside, but things weren't the same anymore. Her and JC were not
longer together.
She knew she shouldn't be feeling these
feelings for him still. She was over him. All she had to do was convince
her heart of that.
“Emma!”
She turned around quickly, just in
case it was another doctor calling for her assistance. But when she looked,
she saw Justin running towards her.
Annoyed, Emma just stared at him. “What?”
She had work to do, damn it. She didn’t need to be bothered by Justin, who
obviously was here to try and convince her to at least talk to JC.
Justin rushed over and put his hand
on her shoulder, obviously out of breath. He must have ran very far.
“They’re bringing JC in. He’s been
hit by a car.”
Well, that wasn’t what she was expecting
him to say. Her jaw dropped. “Hit by a car?” She felt fear taking over all
her other emotions. “Wait, this is just a ploy to get me back. I knew he’d
try something like this.”
“Emma, stop being mad at him for just
one second!” Justin yelled. “He was hit by a car, I swear. I haven't even
seen him since he came here to find you.”
She stared at the elevator as a man
was being carried out on a stretcher. She shrieked when she saw JC lying
there.
“JC!” She ran over and helped the paramedic
carry the stretcher into a spare hospital room. “JC, why did you do this?”
She stared down at his body. His almost lifeless body.
The paramedics left her alone with
JC, who was still unconscious.
“Emma?” She turned and saw Justin,
Joey and Lance standing outside the door.
“Can we come in?” Lance asked sticking
his head inside.
Emma just nodded.
She was almost at the point of tears
but she didn't want them to know that JC reached her a little. “What happened?”
“He went to a club,” Joey started,
“and got drunk and was walking across the street, then he got hit.”
That’s what he had been told by the
woman that had been driving the jeep.
“Oh my God, I can't believe he got
drunk, that’s not JC,” Emma said softly.
Justin stared at her. “He's not been
the same since he lost you. He doesn't even seem to care about living anymore.”
She looked down at JC. His face was
slowly losing all it’s color. “That's not true, JC is a fighter. Plus he
would want to live for his career. That's what is important to him.”
“That's not true,” Lance said. “JC
loves you more than you know. You're everything to him. He would give up
everything for you, if you would just forgive him.”
“It's not an easy thing to just forgive!”
Couldn’t they see that? Emma fled from the room in tears and went to tend
to other patients but she knew it was all useless. She leaned against the
desk.
“Oh, Emma.”
Emma looked around the deserted hallway
and saw her sister, Jenna standing there. It was obvious she knew what was
going on.
Jenna walked over and hugged her sister.
“I heard about you and JC and I was just told what happened to him.”
“Who told you about me and JC?“ Emma
asked. But she didn't need an answer, she should of known. She looked back
at the three guys behind her.
“We know what he did was wrong…”
Emma glared at Justin. “It was more
than wrong. I've always been there for JC and he betrayed me. Big time. I
can't be with him anymore so just drop it! I'm JC's doctor for now but soon
I will have to give his case to someone else.”
“Why would you do that?” Joey asked.
“Because it's too personal. I would
lose it taking care of him, that’s if he survives the night.”
They all looked shocked. Even Emma
surprised herself. It sounded like she didn’t care whether JC lived or died.
“You don't have any faith in him, do
you?” Lance said.
“It’s not that, Lance.”
“You’re still in love with him,” Jenna
said.
She looked at her sister. “No, I’m
not.”
“Yes you are. The moment you met him
he's all you have ever talked about and I know you're angry now but you'll
come around and trust him again. Then you'll forgive him.” Jenna looked more
then just convinced about this. She knew Emma very well, and she knew that
Emma couldn’t stay angry long.
“Not this time,” Emma muttered quietly.
“Listen guys, you can go and stay with JC. I have to do some tests.”
Emma spent the night doing several
tests on JC, just to see how bad he was hurt and if he had any internal injuries.
She couldn’t help but feel guilty for
the condition JC was in. If only she had let him talk earlier. Or maybe she
could have found a nicer of way of saying they were over, instead of yelling
at him like she had done.
And late that night when she went in
to check on him, he was still the same. Lying there lifelessly, his hands
slowly turning white.
“Why did you do this?” she cried, leaning
up against the door frame. “Why? We had everything. You had to go and screw
around on me.” She cried against the door, his tears falling, leaving wet
marks on the white door.
