Sometimes Love Just Isn't Enough

Chapter Eleven

Emma tried calling his name, but it just came out in a soft whisper. He didn’t seem to be listening because he was just laying there, staring at her like he didn’t even know her.

He only had one of his eyes opened. And the one that was open, was only half open. In a split second, he laid both his eyes on her. They were both open completely now.

“Emma?” he said. His pale face just stared at her.

“JC, can you hear me?”

He didn’t move, but his mouth opened. “Emma?” he said again.

She looked at him and smiled. “JC, do you know where you are?” She was happy just to see his eyes again. He could barely move any of his muscles so he couldn’t smile, but she was just happy to see him awake.

They would worry about the rest later.

He shook his head, then nodded. “On tour...No wait you're here.....And in a killer uniform.”

And she was just wearing a pair of jeans and a black shirt.

Emma laughed when she saw his eyes almost pop out. “JC, I'm serious. Do you know where you are?” When he shook his head, she replied, “you're in the hospital. You were hit by a car. You've been in a coma for almost 3 weeks.”

“What? How did that happen?”

“You got drunk,” Chris cut in, coming into the room. “Man, it's so good to see awake.”

JC shook his head in amazement. “Drunk? Me? Are you crazy?”

Justin chimed in and laughed. “I know, it was a shock for us, too.”

“Guys! I've never been happier to see you,” JC said smiling brightly.

“We’re happy to see you, too,” Lance said.

“I feel like I've been in a cage for months,” JC said, then looked back at Emma.

“You've been in a coma,” she corrected. “How do you feel?”

“My head hurts. And I feel tired,” he said.

The doctor walked up and shone the flashlight in his eyes to check his vision. “Let's all leave so Mr. Chasez can rest.”

“Could you get that thing away from me,” JC complained.

Emma laughed then looked at the doctor to explain. “He hates too much light and he hates things stuck in his face.”

The doctor smiled saying he understood then turned the light off. “Okay everyone out of here so he can rest.” Everyone followed the doctor out except Emma. “Emma, that means you too.”

JC and Emma couldn't hear him, they were lost looking into each others eyes.

“Emma,” the doctor said.

She turned around and saw the doctor gesturing for her to come.

“Can she stay with me?” JC asked giving the doctor puppy dog eyes.

“I don't think.…” The doctor began then fell for JC's pout. “Fine, but only for a while. You need your rest,Mr Chasez.”

When everyone was out of the room, JC laughed.

Emma wanted to roll her eyes, but she found his laugh incredibly cute. “What’s so funny?” she asked.

“He fell for it just like you always did,” he said bringing her face closer to his. JC gently pressed his lips to hers in a gentle, but sweet kiss.

“I don't think you're ready to be doing that again,” Emma said.

“Oh sorry I forgot, you hate me.” He frowned.

“No, JC, I don't hate you. I love you.”

JC looked confused. “What? But I cheated on you, remember?”

That much he did remember. He remembered what had happened that night when Emma found him in that girl’s hotel bed. He even remembered her harsh words that she spoke to him. But what JC couldn’t understand was why Emma was being so kind to him now.

“I know.” She smiled. “But I love you and that will never change.” Emma grabbed a chair next to the bed and sat down. “You seem surprised.”

“I am,” JC said honestly. “I mean I betrayed you. I betrayed our love.”

“Yes you did, but I love you and I want to give us another chance,” Emma replied pressing her head to the side of his cheek.

He clutched the blanket that was covering his body. “I don't know what to say. I dreamed of you saying that since the moment you walked away from me in that hotel.”

“Can we not talk about that night ever again?” she asked putting her arms around his neck.

He nodded. He never wanted to talk about it, either.

“I should rest now,” he said. “Or the doctor will get mad at me.”

“That’s probably a good idea.” Emma got up from the chair. “I’ll check on you later,” she said, once she reached the doorway.

“You’re so beautiful.”

Emma looked back at him. He looked right back at her.

“So beautiful. I know now how lucky I am to have you.”

She couldn’t speak. She just loved hearing his voice again. But when he said things like that, her heart would melt.

“We’re going to be okay,” she said. “I forgive you. I love you too much not to. I need you, JC.”

JC laid back against the pillows. “I need you, too.”

He was fast asleep before she could say anything else.

“I love you.” Emma blew him a kiss, then left the room. There would many more times when she could tell him that. And there would be many more times when she would hear those words returned to her.
