Love Happens - Chapter Sixteen

The morning started out beautiful so Dasia walked to the store to buy some groceries. While walking down the fruit aisle, she saw the last person she wanted to. She decided it was time for her to leave and ran to the check out line, hoping she wouldn't be noticed.

Once she paid, she hurried out of the store but stopped dead in her tracks when she walked out the doors. “I hate Florida weather,” she mumbled.

“You just never know what to expect,” a voice said from behind her. “Sunny one minute and a hurricane the next.”

She knew who it was but didn't want to turn around. “You better get going if you don't want to get stuck,” she told Justin.

“I don't see your car,” Justin said, trying to keep the conversation going.

“That's cause I walked,” she said in an obvious tone.

“Do you need a ride home?” he offered.

“No, I'll just walk back,” she said, refusing.

“There's no way you'll make it. It's almost flooding and it will be by the time you get home.”

“So I'll drown. No biggie.” She took a step for the street but Justin pulled her back.

“I know we had our differences but it's not worth getting sick over.”

“I'll call for a taxi.” She dialed the number but only got a recording that stated they were closed due to the severe storm coming. She did not want to get in his car but realized there was no other way.

On the drive home they at in silence. He helped her carry her bags inside.

“Thanks,” she said politely.

He was getting ready to leave when she stopped him. There was an announcement on the radio advising everyone to stay off the roads. She wanted him out of her house, but risking his life wasn't worth it.

“What should we do?” he asked, a little uneasy.

“I was going to make dinner cause I'm starved. You can watch TV if you want.”

“Do you need any help?”

“The last man in my kitchen was my brother and I'm still cleaning up his mess,” Dasia said, remembering the visit.

“What you talking about? I can cook,” he said in a cocky voice.

“Right,” was all she said before getting back to putting away the groceries.

“Ohh, you don't believe me?” he said, standing tall.

“No,” was all she said.

“Go watch TV woman and let me do my thang,” he said, pushing her out.

“This really isn't necessary,” she said, afraid of what he might do.

“I'm good. Just trust me.”

“Fine. I'm a little bit too tired to argue. I'm going to take a shower. Don't break anything.”

“Good. Now go relax and dinner will be done soon.”

She watched him a little longer before leaving the room. Once she got dressed and freshened up a bit after her shower, she walked into the dining room to see Chicken Alfredo, Salad, dinner rolls, and a few other things set up on the table.

“I hope you don't mind, I opened the wine you had. It was the only thing that went with the meal.”

“I can't believe you did all this,” she said, amazed by what she saw.

“Dessert will be ready soon and cooled off by the time dinner is done. Let me get that for you,” he said, grabbing her chair as she went to sit.

Dinner was fantastic and so was dessert. Afterwards, they washed the dishes together and watched some TV. Dasia fell asleep on his shoulder and he didn't want to wake her so he slept there.

The next morning he woke up early, but didn't want to wake Dasia so he slowly unwrapped her arms from around him.

Still sleeping, she pulled him back. He wanted to stay but knew he better leave.

As he was getting up, he heard her mumble, “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he whispered and gave her a small kiss.

She felt his kiss but didn't open up her eyes till he was gone.

~~~
“So that's it, you woke up and he was gone? Are you sure that was it?” Tiffany asked.
“Well…” Dasia didn't finish.
“Well what? What happened?” Tiffany pleaded.
“He said he loved me.”
“What?”
“I must have said something in my sleep, but as I was waking, he whispered, ‘I love you too,’ and then he kissed me,” she said touching her lips.
“Are you sure you didn't dream it?”
“Of course I'm sure,” Dasia retorted.
“What are you going to do?” Tiffany asked.
“About what?”
“You both love each other so why don't you tell him?”
“I don't tell him cause he's getting married to Claire TOMORROW.”
“So?” Tiffany said, not seeing the point.
“Maybe if the circumstances were different…” Dasia trailed off.
“Then make things different!” Tiffany ordered.
“Since when did you want me and Justin together? When we first got together, you were against us because I broke off a wedding, and now you're telling me to do it again. Why?” Dasia asked, baffled.
“Because I'm tired of this run around and watching two people who are madly in love, waste time bitching and moaning instead of being together.” Tiffany paused for a moment to collect her thoughts. “Listen, you know how much I love you babe, and I want to see you happy. Yes, at first I thought going after Justin was a mistake, but I have never seen you happier then when you're with him and I want you to keep that. Promise me you'll get him back.”
“Tiffany it's too late, I…”
She was cut off by Tiffany. “It's never too late. I'll do whatever it takes to help, just let me know, alright? I have to hang up now because my plane leaves soon so I'll see you at the airport. Just think about what I said.”
Tiffany had been invited to the wedding and thought it was a good excuse to see everyone again. She hoped Dasia would take her advice.
Dasia couldn't get what Tiffany said out of her mind.
‘It's so stupid! I can't believe I'm even considering it.’ She threw down the phone and turned on the TV, trying to think about something else. ‘Maybe she's right. I can't just sit back and watch the man I love marry someone else, even if he's a jerk.’ She sighed knowing what she had to do. ‘I guess there is nothing else to do but take action.’
She picked up the phone and called the one person she knew would make everything right.
“Hey we need to talk,” she said, getting right to the point.
“Sure, what's it about?” he asked.
“As you know Tiffany is coming tonight. I'll explain what it's all about, but first I need to know if you'll come to the airport with me to pick her up,” she finished.
“Of course, anything for you,” he answered sincerely.
