Love Happens - Chapter Fourteen
“Justin wait. Where are you going?” Joey asked, grabbing Justin's arm.
“Home.”
"Is it Dasia?"
“Yes. I mean no. No, she didn't do anything wrong. I just need to be alone
to think,” Justin said, confusion shown on his face.
“About her?” Joey asked.
“I love her, but I messed up and I can't have her back.”
“Yes, you can.”
“What? I chose Claire and now she hates me. Do you know how long it took
just to get her to talk to me? She'll hate me forever if I tell her how I
feel.”
“It's not as dramatic or as complicated as you make it sound. All you have
to do is take her aside and say, ‘I love you, please take me back.’ ” Joey
said.
“And you honestly think she'll take me back after everything?” Justin wondered.
“She stayed at my house for a week and I saw how heart broken she was. Even
the month she wouldn't talk to you, she'd bring you up as nonchalant as possible,
wondering how you were or if you missed her. She hasn't gotten over you,
Justin.”
“I still think it's time for me to go.”
Justin walked away, this time Joey didn't try and stop him. He knew Justin
would make the right choice. Joey went back and sat with the group.
Dasia gave him a questioning glance as to what had happened, but he just
shrugged his shoulders.
~~~
“Hi.”
It had been two days since everyone had gone out and Dasia still hadn't gotten
a hold of Justin. It wasn't like him to just leave like that without saying
goodbye. And even though they weren't together, she still worried about him.
“Dasia?”
“Were you expecting someone else?”
“No, it's just that you haven't called me since…” He stopped himself from
bringing it up. He didn't want to ruin things before he told her how he felt.
“It's just been a really long time and it surprised me is all.”
“Yeah well people change, I guess.”
“So what brings on this call?” he asked.
“Why did you leave that night without telling anyone?”
“I told Joey,” he replied.
“No. Joey went after you but you really didn't tell him you were leaving.”
“I didn't feel well was all,” he answered, not wanting to tell her the truth.
He knew if he wanted to make his move, now was the time. “Do you wanna go
get something for lunch?”
“Justin, I don't think that's a good idea,” she said hesitantly.
“Please Dasia.” He didn't know what he would do if she said no. “Just to
Mickey D's if you want. I promise I won't laugh when you put barbecue sauce
and french fries in your hamburger if you come.”
She laughed remembering all the times he used to make fun of her about that.
“Only if you promise.”
“You have my word.”
“I've heard that before,” she said, remembering her first night back.
~Flashback~
“I saw Claire yesterday.”
“Really? Where? What did she say?” She wondered if he had doubts about choosing
her instead of Claire.
“She didn't really say much. She was at the studio when we were recording.
She's dating her tennis coach. Actually I hear they have been for about a
month.”
“You're kidding,” Dasia replied. “But you only broke up a week ago. So she
was cheating on you before you even left? How did you find out?”
“A few acquaintances, but I saw all the signs. I guess when you care about
someone so much you ignore it all.”
Dasia tried not to let his comment faze her.
‘Stop trying to over act! Of course he really cared abut her. They were five
seconds away from getting married before you ruined everything.’ Thoughts
of doubt and guilt ran through her mind. ‘He means so much to me, but I hope
he made the right choice.’
Justin noticed the look on her face and wished he could have changed that
last sentence. “Dasia.”
“Yeah?” she said as casually as possible.
“I met you two weeks ago and fell for you. Everything that Claire and I had
is over. You're the one I want to be with, you have my word.”
~End of Flashback~
She shook her head of those thoughts. They weren't together anymore and she
had to remember that.
‘I have to get over him no matter what,’ she told herself.
She deciding seeing him would be a good thing. If she could be in the same
room with him, and nothing happening, maybe she could get over him. The time
they had spent apart, she really missed his friendship. She felt a bit guilty
going out with him even if it was just as friends.
‘That's how things happened with Claire, but that's not going to happen with
us,’ she convinced herself. ‘I made a mistake the first time with him, but
it's not going to happen again.’
“I'm not ready so why don't you pick me up in fifteen minutes,” she offered.
“All right. See you then,” he said.
When he got to her house, it was such a beautiful day, they decided to walk
from there. They sat at McDonald's for an hour just talking and laughing
about stuff that had happened since the break up.
Their day together ended there since Dasia had to take Tiffany to the airport.
They agreed on going to the movies the next day to see a new action flick
they were dying to see.
‘It's a start to friendship and getting over him,’ Dasia thought.
‘It's a start,’ thought Justin, but not towards friendship.
He figured if they took it slow, he could win her back. He hadn't broken
up with Claire, he couldn't. He had broken her heart once and he didn't want
to do it again. What if Dasia didn't want him back? Then where would he be?
He knew Dasia was the one for him, but he couldn't risk losing both.
