Chapter Nine

Missy ran to find Justin grinning down the hallways knowing she could use what she had learned to get Justin all to herself.

She finally found him. He was locking up his locker while putting on his letterman's jacket. She walked up to him hiding her grin and stood in front of him.

“Hey baby!”

He turned around, but frowned when he saw that it was only Missy. “You're not Christina.”

“No, silly! I just found out who her new boyfriend is though.”

Justin turned his face to her in shock, he couldn't believe she had a boyfriend already. “She has another one already?” he asked sternly, putting his hands into fists.

“Yeah, of course. She's a fast mover. I don't think she cares very much ab.…” Missy was cut off by Justin.

“Who the hell is he already!“ he yelled, impatiently.

Missy was scared by his tone but didn't show it. “Joey,” she answered.

“Joey Fatone?!” She nodded. “Why the hell would she date him? He and his friends are such losers. Especially that Lance kid, what an idiot.” Justin just shook his head. He couldn’t believe this crap.

“I know,” Missy agreed.

Justin grabbed his bag and put it over his shoulders about to walk away when Joey passed his locker. Justin grabbed Joey's shirt collar, and glared into Joey’s eyes.

“Let go of me!” Joey yelled. Justin ignored him and tightened his grip on the collar. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“You are!” Justin exclaimed. “You thought I wouldn't find out about you and Christina? I'm not stupid!”

Joey was finding it hard to breathe now. “What are you talking about?” Since when was something going on between him and Christina? They were just friends.

“I heard the whole thing, Joey,” Missy said. “I heard Christina talking to some girl named Lila. Christina said she had a crush on you and that other girl said you and Christina should go to the dance together. It's not hard to figure out you're going out with her.”

“I'm not going out with her,” Joey said. “Listen Justin, I'm not. I swear, we're friends that's it.”

“You swear?” Joey nodded. Justin let go of his collar. “Just make sure you're not lying. If anyone dates Christina, its me, you got that?”

Joey just nodded, too frightened to say anything else.

“How come you are friends with her when she only is friends with you because she has no one else to eat with?” Missy asked. She was loving this.

“What are you talking about?” Joey asked.

Missy stepped closer. “She told Lila she's only friends with you because she has no one else to go to. She doesn't like you, Joey,” she stated.

Tears formed in his eyes. Joey ran off before anyone could tell he was upset.

“Why did you do that?” Missy asked Justin.\

Justin looked at her. “Do what?”

“Let him off so easy.”

He just laughed. “I didn't. Once he shows up with her at the dance, he's dead meat,” Justin growled.

Christina got home just as her parents car drove off. They gave her a quick wave just as she was walking into the house.

Christina set her bag down, then plopped onto the couch. She decided she would watch TV before she went out. The doorbell rang just before she could grab the remote.

“Joey?”

He nodded and walked in. Joey didn’t look very thrilled to be there, and he had his hands stuffed in his coat pocket.

“I ran into Justin. I’m scared of him,” he said quietly. She got a frightened look on her face. She took his hand and led him over to the couch. “I need you to tell me the truth about something.” He looked up at her. “The honest truth.”

“Anything,” she said to him.

“Is it true that you only hang out with me because you have no where else to go?” he asked plainly. “Tell me the truth,” he demanded when she didn’t speak.

“Who told you this?” Christina asked.

“Missy said you told Lila this after school.” She looked in another direction wanting to forget the question. “Oh my god its true!” Joey realized. She couldn’t look at him.

“JOEY WAIT!!!!!!!” She ran in front of him. He stopped and looked at her. No longer he look at her as a friend. He now looked at her like an enemy. “At first I did, but that's not true anymore. I care about you. You are the best friend I could ever ask f.…”

“Don't give me that!” he yelled. “I don't ever want to see you again! You're the selfish girl I always thought you were!” He ran out upset.

She stood there frozen realizing she just lost the love of her life, even if she didn't know it yet.
