After third period was over, Christina walked to the cafeteria
to meet Justin who was there waiting for her. He had bought them both lunch
and was sitting at the table looking into space.
She walked up to the table they usually ate at and sat beside him. She didn’t
notice he looked spaced out.
“Hey baby,” Christina said.
“Hey,” he said, tearing his eyes away from the wall and looked at her. “I
brought us lunch.”
“That's so sweet Justin, thank you,” she said then kissed his cheek and took
a sip of her soda.
He smiled watching her before he took a bite of his burger. He looked up
across the room and saw Missy smiling at him. He looked away quickly not
wanting Christina to see the way he was looking at Missy. Justin knew how
much Christina hated her and he didn't need Christina mad at him.
“How was your morning?” he asked turning his attention back to Christina.
She looked up from her salad. “It was good thanks, how about yours?” Before
Justin could say anything, Missy had walked over to their table.
“Hi guys. Do you mind if I eat lunch with you? Since Rob and I aren't together
anymore, I have no one to eat lunch with.” She didn’t even wait for an answer,
she just grabbed a chair and sat across from Justin.
“No, we don't mind, do we sweetie?” Justin said smiling sweetly at his girlfriend.
She looked upset and Justin knew it, but he didn't want to be rude to Missy
and say she couldn't sit with them.
“You guys eat here, I'm going to eat outside,” Christina said getting up
from her seat. She didn't want Missy to get what she wanted and that was
to be alone with Justin, but she didn't care at the moment. She needed to
get away from Missy.
“Baby, why don't you stay?” Justin asked. He looked confused as of why she
wanted to leave.
“You talk with Missy, you know how heartbroken she is. Maybe she needs a
friend, and with me and her hating each other, that will just complicate
things more.” Christina picked up her salad and soda, then left the cafeteria.
She watched from the window as Missy took Christina’s vacant seat. “Bitch,”
Christina muttered, then turned around and headed for the doors that led
to the picnic tables outside.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make her leave,” Missy said trying to act apologetic,
though she wasn't at all sorry. Her plan was working perfectly.
“It's fine,” Justin said smiling at her. “You know how Christina is. Very
caring and she knows you need a friend.”
“And I'm glad you're that person,” she said seductively wrapping her legs
around Justin's under the table.
Justin didn't move his legs away, he just looked up at her and smiled. “I'm
glad I can help,” he said taking another bite of his hamburger.
Missy watched him eat every bite and admired him from where she was sitting.
To her, he was the only person who rocked her world. She spent most of the
day thinking about him.
He caught her watching him as food fell out of his mouth. “What, do I have
something on my teeth?”
“No, you're just cute,” she said taking her finger and removed the food from
his mouth and placed it on the wrapper where the burger was now laying.
“Thanks, so are you,” he said blushing. Justin barely blushed, but Missy
made him feel special.
“But not as much as Christina, right?” Missy picked at her sandwich.
“Christina is my best friend and my girlfriend. And yeah she is cute, actually
gorgeous.” His thoughts went back to Christina. Why was he doing this again?
He couldn't remember.
“Why did you make out with me this morning?” Missy asked.
Justin shrugged. “I guess because you were there and Christina wasn’t.”
“Oh yeah?” Missy leaned over and kissed him passionately. He didn't pull
away. He kissed her back with the same passion, both forgetting where they
were.
Just as that happened, Christina was walking and saw what was going on. Tears
began falling immidiately. People began staring. The people in the cafeteria
had gathered around the table watching the two kiss. And the people outside
near Christina could see how hurt she was and they felt bad for her.
Her friend, Marti, came up to her and handed her a kleenex. She took it and
wiped her eyes.
“I'm so sorry, I thought what I saw this morning wouldn't happen again,”
Marti said placing a comforting arm on her friends' shoulder.
“What happened this morning?”
“I didn't want to tell you but I saw them making out this morning,” Marti
said. She had wanted Justin to tell her, but obviously he hadn't.
“If he thinks he can play around on me, he has another thing coming!” Christina
ran back outside.
“Anyone want my twinkie?” Lance asked as he, JC, Joey, Chris and Heather
were eating outside at a picnic table.
Joey immidiately grabbed it from Lance's hand and stuffed it into his mouth
after unwrapping it.
“Joey, it's not nice to grab,” JC said in a fatherly tone.
“Yeah Joey,” Chris said shaking a finger at Joey.
“Sorry,” Joey said then looked at Lance. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine, Joey,” Lance said. “I have another one. Want that, too?”
“Please,” Joey said.
They always shared their lunches. If there were ever leftovers, they would
just pass them over to Joey who ate anything.
Lance took the other twinkie out of his lunch bag and passed it to Joey,
who ate it quickly.
“Nice of you to ask us, Lance,” JC said. “I'm just kidding. We're all full,
hey Joey want my pudding? It's chocolate..…” JC showed it to Joey then passed
it to him.
