When Justin dropped her off later that night at Anna's, she went right to her bedroom without even saying hello to Anna. She didn't even know if Anna was back yet, but knew when she came out with her pajama's on.

Elizabeth saw Anna sitting on the couch, watching some old reruns on tv. “Oh when did you get home?” Elizabeth asked.

Anna gestured for her friend to join her on the couch. Anna waited until Elizabeth sat down. “A while ago. And where have you been all night?”

“I just went bowling,” Elizabeth said.

        “With who?” Anna asked.

“Just Justin and some of his friends,” Elizabeth said as if it was nothing.

“So you've met them?” Anna laughed. “A bunch of characters those guys.”

Elizabeth chuckled. “Yeah. They weren’t that happy when I beat them.”

She turned off the television. “So how did it go with Justin?” Anna asked.

“What do you mean by that?”

“It's just that you two have gotten along so well.”

“He's really sweet and everything. But we're friends, that's it.” Elizabeth got up off the couch. “I better get to bed, my shift begins at 3 am.”

Anna watched her go into her room, then Anna smiled.

“She's falling for him, I can totally tell.”

Elizabeth got up at 2 to leave for her first day at the hospital. On her first day, she was really busy. She had at least a hundred patients to tend to. She was so glad she was the doctor now and not the intern. She remembered the first two years of her internship had been the hardest. Learning all the ropes and having to deal with all the sickness around her.

When her shift was over at 2 am the next day, Elizabeth put on her coat and was heading out the door when one of the other doctors called her. She stopped and turned around.

“I need assistance, there's a stab wound victim on their way in and it could be serious,” the doctor explained. “Can you help?”
She couldn't refuse to give a patient treatment, especially something like a stab wound. It could be very serious and life threatening. Just then, a stretcher was pulled into the front entrance by two paramedics.

“Stab wound, right in the chest. She says it doesn't hurt that bad but it should be treated, it might be infected,” one of the paramedics said, bring the stretcher closer for Elizabeth to get a better look at the patient.

Elizabeth couldn't get her eyes off the woman. She recognized her from somewhere, then it donned on her. “Oh my God.”

The young woman stared at Elizabeth. “What?”

“I've seen you before…” She paused. "At the club the other night. You're Justin's ex.”

Meg grabbed her chest in pain. “You know him?”

“I was with him the other night, he's a friend of mine. He thought you wanted him back.”

        “Well I'm engaged,” Meg said.

        “Yeah, I know.”

The doctor stepped up beside the stretcher. “Don’t worry, she’ll take you into cubicle room 3 and get you all stitched up.”

Elizabeth got Meg into a wheelchair then wheeled her into the cubicle room. She remained silent not talking to Meg. She didn't know Meg, but a part of her felt hatred for what she was putting Justin through.

She began to treat the stab wound in Meg's chest. “So how did you and Justin meet?” Meg asked, not feeling too much pain as she was getting stitched up.

“My best friend is dating one of his friends,” Elizabeth explained, not looking up from her task.

        “Are you two…?”

“No way. Besides the guy can't get over you. He still thinks you're going to take him back one day. How did this happen anyway?” Elizabeth asked, trying to change the subject.

“The stabbing?” Meg paused. “Me and Rob had a little argument is all, he didn't mean it.”

“Why did you cheat on Justin?” She knew it was none of her business, but she wanted to know.

Meg sighed. “I got really lonely. You know he sings, right? Well he was away all the time and I just fell out of love with him I guess.”

“He hasen't said much about your relationship, except that you cheated on him.”

Meg let out a gust of pain. “I hate hospitals. Anyways, I just got so tired of waiting for him.”

Elizabeth put her tools down on the table and looked straight at Meg as she sat on a chair. “Why would you give up such a nice guy like him?”

“He may sound great to you since your just his friend, but we argued a lot. We fought about everything,” Meg said. “I know what his friends think of me, what they've always thought about me, but that's the not the way it is. I didn't want to hurt him, I care still very much for him.”

Elizabeth got up. It was best now to end this conversation. “You're done. I'm sorry I didn't mean to come off on you before like I did. I barely know you and I shouldn't have judged you.”

Meg got up and pulled her shirt back down. “It's okay, you're just looking out for Justin. He's really lucky to have a friend like you.”

Elizabeth knew she meant something by that, but she didn't know what it was. “Would you like a ride home? I'm off my shift now.”

Meg followed Elizabeth to her jeep. They didn't talk much on the drive to Rob's house. Elizabeth was kind of worried about leaving Meg alone with this Rob guy, but she said it was an accident and she had to try and believe her. Soon they were there and Meg was getting out of the car.

“Thanks for the ride,” Meg said. She shut the door.

As Elizabeth was driving away, she wondered what the real story was. She had a feeling she had been lied to.
