Justin stood up too
and laughed. “That's what our group is called.”
“Oh. I don't know much about music
so I didn't know,” Elizabeth said sitting back down feeling kind of embarrassed.
“Hey I'm glad you don't know who we
are. I like to be around people who don't go around asking for autographs
all the time,” Justin said sitting back down feeling a lot more comfortable
about her.
“Are you popular?”
“In various places yes. In the US it
can get very hectic.”
“Wow. Sometimes that must be hard though,”
she said sympathetically. “Is that why you and your girlfriend, you know,
broke up?”
“You could say that had something to
do with it. You see Meg, that's her name, she started seeing this other guy
behind my back while I was on tour.”
“I'm sorry. I know how it feels. I
went to Maui for a weekend and when I came back my boyfriend already traded
me in for some beautiful model.”
“He was a fool,” Justin said trying
to make her feel better. He reached across the table and touched her hand.
She looked up at him and smiled. “Thanks.
I'm over him now, and I know you must think you won't get over her, but I
thought that too, and I was able to move on.”
“I don't think that I won't move on,
it's just I want time and nobody seems to be able to understand that.”
“Oh I know how that is. Anna kept on
calling me every night just to make sure I was okay. I mean I thought it
was sweet, but at the same time, I hated it, you know?”
“Yeah I know what you mean. The other
guys and my family do things like that too.”
“Do you think it's working?”Anna asked
pouring some coffee in one of the four mugs that were sitting on the kitchen
counter.
JC was too busy spying on the two in
the living room with the small crack in the door that separated the two rooms.
He started laughing at what he was hearing them saying.
“What’s so funny?” Anna asked. \
JC was still laughing. “They're talking
about breakups.” He found the last part quite amusing. “She's never heard
of us either.”
“I know that.” Anna went into the fridge
and pulled out the milk. “Elizabeth is a very conservative person. She's
only into studying and watching the news. I don’t think she listens to very
much music.”
“So do you think it's working?” JC
asked.
“I just asked you that! But you were too
busy spying on our friends. What are they saying anyways?”
“ ‘Oh he was a fool for dumping you,’” JC
laughed repeating what Justin had said just a few seconds ago.
Anna hit him on the arm. “That's not
funny. That was a very hard time for her.”
“What happened?“ JC asked taking one
of the mugs and sipping it. "Damn, that’s hot!” He went over to the sink
and drank some water.
“If you would of waited, I would have
told you it was hot. And for your information, her ex Thomas, well he dumped
her for a model. Total jerk in my books, I never liked him, but Elizabeth
was convinced she was in love with him.”
“So what do we do now that they are
talking? What's the next step?”
“Well either we just let them do what
they want now that they're talking or,” she paused, “we can all get together
tomorrow night and do something more fun than dinner.”
“I like the second one.” JC came back
over and kissed her. “Come on let's get out there before they have a fight.”
“JC wait.” Anna grabbed his hand, pulling
him back. “We haven't had one moment alone together tonight. Besides, they
seem to be having a really good time. I mean you said Justin hasen't even
talked much about his breakup with Meg, and look he's opening up to Elizabeth.”
“I guess you're right.” JC sighed then
placed his arms around her. “But if we hear any..…”
“Then we'll go out and I'll save Elizabeth
from Justin killing her.”
“Okay, you got a deal.”
“I wonder what they're doing in there,”
Elizabeth said, looking back at the kitchen door. “They’ve been in there
a while now.”
“Probably making out,” she heard Justin
say from beside her.
She made a face. “You have to be kidding.”
“They do it all the time,” Justin told
her. He laughed just thinking about it.
“Really? I didn't think Anna was....you
know like that.”
“What can I say? He has that effect
on her.” He chuckled.
“I think I might just go for a walk,
you know until they come out,” Elizabeth said getting up from her chair.
She watched with half closed eyelids
as Justin followed behind her.
“I'll come too, I could use some air,”
Justin said putting his coat on. He grabbed what he figured was Elizabeth's
coat and put it around her shoulders.
“Thanks. Um where do you want to walk
to?” she asked.
As he closed the front door behind
them, he said, “wherever you want to go.”
“I've never been here so I don't really
know where there is to go.”
“Why don't we walk to the lake? It's
just around the corner and down the road,” he suggested.
“Not a bad idea. I love the lake this
time of year.” She would have gotten lost if he hadn’t joined her, she realized.
“Great.” He smiled and gestured her
to follow him. They walked a feet few away from each other to the lake.
“Let's get out there, it's getting
really quiet,” Anna said pulling away from JC.
“But..” stammered JC hoping to keep
his girlfriend alone with him for a few more private moments. He hadn’t been
alone with her more than five minutes since he’d come back from the last
tour.
“Come on,” she ordered dragging him
back into the living room. She was stunned when she saw that Justin and Elizabeth
weren't where they were left them before. “JC, they're not here.”
“Where do you think they went?” JC
asked kissing her neck.
Anna moved away from JC and looked
at him seriously. “JC I mean it, look they're not here.”
JC finally looked and saw that they
weren't. “They probably went outside for some air or something.”
“You think?” When he nodded, Anna went
out the door but still no sight of Justin or Elizabeth. “Where could they
be?”
“Maybe they.…”
JC was interrupted by his girlfriend
pacing around on the grass. “We have to find them.”
“Let's just start to walk around and
we'll probably find them.”
“Good idea.” She grabbed JC's hand
and dragged him onto the street. It wasn’t too dark out yet, so they could
find their way around.
“So do you think they're still at it?”
Elizabeth asked. She and Justin had walked around the lake a little, and
now they were just sitting on the sand. They had both been quiet for the
last few minutes, but Elizabeth broke the silence.
“Probably.”
“We don’t have to talk. You must have
a lot on your mind.” She could tell because he had been really quiet the
whole time they had been there.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked.
“Sure,” she said.
“Would you go with me to a club tomorrow
night?”
“Why?” She hoped she didn’t sound rude.
“Meg's going and she asked me to come
meet her new boyfriend, and I don't want to go alone, and well I find you
to be very nice figured….”
“If you want me to,” she said.
“You don't have to.…” He trailed off
again. He didn’t want to make her go, but he felt like he needed her there.
He would bring one of the guys, but he knew they would act rudely toward
Meg, as they had always done.
“No I want to,” she said, touching
his arm lightly. “I’d like to meet this girl.”
