Casher & Roberta Davis
Casher is the youngest child of Isaac and Dora Davis and was born on July 10, 1911 in Brownsville, Tennessee. Some of his earliest childhood memories are of playing on his familes 43 acre farm with his 6 year old sister and 7 year old brother. He attended the Willow Grove School through the eighth grade, and also completed one semester at the Haywood County Training School on Jefferson Street in Brownsville.

His first job was on the Davis Family Farm, followed by employment at the Coca Cola Company. His transportation to and from his job was provided by Guy Musgrove, owner of the general store near the family farm. Mr. Musgrove's sons, James and Guy Jr., were his close childhood  friends and also worked for Coca Cola. By  the time the Musgrove boys reached seventeen and eighteen years of age, Casher understood that he was to now call then "Mr.".

As a child and young adult, Casher enjoyed playing marbles, baseball, as well as singing four-part harmony in a quartet. The group would sometimes incorporate a juice harp, harmonica, and a hand saw as instruments. Casher was sometimes allowed to be the "catcher" on white baseball teams as long as they weren't in competition. Willie Waddle, the manager for the team, noted his skills and suggested Casher try out for a professional team.

The marriage of Casher Davis to Roberta Bailey took place on January 8, 1934 and was performed by Reverend Caldwell, the pastor of Willow Grove Baptist Church. Casher continued to work for the Coca Cola Company, and Roberta worked as a nurse for the white physician Dr. Hayes.

Like his brothers Elisha and Thomas, Casher became a charter member of the NAACP in the late 1930's. When oppostion to this forced the Davis brothers from Brownsville, Casher and Roberta made Niles, Michigan their new home in the fall of 1940. It was here that Casher was reunited with his brothers Elisha and Edward. After settling in Niles, Casher and Roberta secured employment with the John Babbitt Family. Casher first worked at the family's farm, and then at the Babbitt Lumber Company. Over a 25 year period he worked in the coal yard, as a truck driver, and as a yard superintendant. The couple built their own home on White Street just outside of Niles. In 1950 they became the adoptive parents of their son Ramon. Casher and Roberta have been long time members of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, and active in their community.

On September 27, 2000, Casher entered into final rest while at home. He was followed on January 4, 2001 by his beloved wife Roberta. They are survived by their son Ramon, grandson's Dwight and Clinton, granddaughter's Brooke and Atarah, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. They are dearly missed by all.
