I plan to have a rogue do an article on the secrets of rogueship for me, but in the meantime, I will put up a small article on rogues from a mage or poets point of view.
The rogue class has many advantages, one of the largest being the fact that their spells let them basically walk through monsters. This tends to make them forget that the other classes cannot do so, which often puts mages or poets in the position of being surrounded by monsters. Also since they can go invisible, the only thing the monsters see to attack are the mages or poets you brought with to help you. So, there goes your mage or poet using return or yellow scrolls to escape from certain death that could have been avoided if you had taken the time to first make sure they were safe.
Now how could you have made sure they were safe? 1. Don't walk through the monsters and expect the mages or poets to follow. We can't, and if we try we will certainly be surrounded by monsters and leave quickly. 2. Try a head on assult for just long enough that the monsters are after you instead of us. We can do our job only if we aren't being attacked. Once you have them chasing you, using ambush and invisible should be fine, because they will follow you and we can use para, vex, venom, blind and sleep, and keep them out of your hair.
Another failing of most rogues is wanting to run as fast as possible into the deepest caves. The proper way to hunt with others is to kill everything in your path on the way in so that we don't get surrounded. If everything is dead, there is nothing to kill us. Lead us slowly to the deep caves, leaving nothing alive in our path. Help your mages and poets find safe places to stand while you deal with the ugly beasties. |
