A mage's job in the game is to help fighters and rogues by healing them, and/or freezing monsters with blind, paralyze, sleep, and also to vex the monster which makes them easier to hit, and to venom them, which is poisoning. I have literally venomed monsters to death.
There are certain spells that are essential to a mage. Healing spell, attack spell, invoke, silver thread, gate, when available paralyze, blind, sleep, vex, venom. If you are planning to go to carnages, doze. It is nice to have summon and approach, they let you move around a server quickly.
I have seen a LOT of mages that never use vex because they don't realize how much more damage a monster takes when it is vexed. Some never blind, because they have paralyzed, however, paralyze is like a 30 second spell, blind lasts many minutes, so when you are in a real pinch, blind everything, then paralyze what you are about to attack. Some mages find venom useless, however, it is a spell that keeps on and on and on causing damage, sometimes for nearly 5 minutes. Sleep is important also, it lets the fighters or rogues use their most damaging spell and seems to double the damage they would usually do. (but, paralyze after sleep or it hits them after attack)
Another important spell is any 4 way attack spell, at lower levels that is electrocute, at higher levels tempest. This lets the mage use paralyze to lock 4 monsters around him, then sit there blasting them and blasting them, 4 at a time. It is OFTEN that a mage finds themselves surrounded, its nice to have a spell that lets you keep the healing arrow on yourself while killing them.
The MOST important mage spell is invoke, it lets a mage restore their magic (mana) using a little vitality. |
