I-Ching Spell
I am constantly being asked on the game exactly what the I-Ching spell that Diviner Guides can cast does. This spell is primarily a role playing spell that leaves a mark on the legend of the person receiving it. In addition to that it can do a lot of things.
This is a way to determine your fate, it requires a Quest and a Role-Playing reason why your character needs to know their fate for the first one you get. After the first one it requires just the quest items and a Role-Playing reason why your character once again seeks their fate.
The hopes of getting an item is NOT a Role-Playing reason for us to cast the spell.
Also, you must be found worthy to receive the spell. People with serious crime marks or multiple crime marks will usually be found unworthy to receive the spell. We wouldn't want to let people think Diviner's approve of lawlessness after all.
Now on to what happens. The recipient clears one of his/her spell slots, hands the Diviner Guide the required spell components. The Diviner casts the spell, calling upon the Tao to reveal the fate of the recipient. The recipient must then wait three real life hours, and must be in the game that whole time, and then they cast the spell they received (called realize prophesy), drop one of the 8 trigram keys, and prepare for their fate.
Possible fates: Death, loss of karma, loss of items, loss of all items, loss of stat points, marriage to the nearest person or even yourself. If there is more than one person nearby a pop up box asks who you love. Sex change, face change, nothing whatsoever (your fate abandons you). Something, practically anything, can happen to the person nearest you, including death. (Thus, don't bring your friend to hold your items in case of death, your friend may be the one to die and your items still perish.)
On the other hand there is gain of karma, gain of stat points (Invoke usually indicates gain of Mana, one of my recipients got 1k permanent mana.) gain of items like sunhelm, fates blade, etc.
The moral of the story? This spell determines your fate. It is very expensive and there is no way to know ahead of time what may happen. Almost anything that can happen in nexus, be done in nexus, or be found in nexus can happen via this spell. I have even heard of someone that lost all items in their bank and off their person, although I cannot confirm that. So, when you come to a guide for an I-Ching reading, come with caution and hope, anything can happen and usually does. |
