Reflection Standard 7
Standard 7 really put the job of facilitator into focus. The ideas here go beyond the classroom and incorporate all things necessary to have an effective technology program. I have ideas and suggestions for integrating technology within the curriculum and I also feel comfortable that I could plan engaging and worthwhile professional development sessions. There are aspects of sections A and B that I still need to develop familiarity with. I've taken Technology Facilitator, but I think the lack of actual work experience in some areas like raising money, budgeting, maintenance, and selecting hardware such as that for networks make it a little intimidating. In the coming school year I plan to assist on the school technology committee and try to implement staff-wide workshops to assist other teachers with integrating technology within the curriculum. These activities would help the school community as well as give me needed experience with coordinating technology plans and activities.
The artifacts that I included for this standard are items from the course Technology Facilitator. By introducing me to the responsibilities of those in the field I now have a clearer picture of what will be expected of me when I become a facilitator. Evaluating the school technology plans gave me a good idea of what school districts need to consider when planning for technology integration. The grant proposals helped us see that there are ways to get money for technology projects without always relying on the school, district and state budgets. I had never requested a grant from any other organization but my school PTA. Planning out the grant and then being able to implement the project after receiving the funds was a great experience for me and my students. Finally, collaborating with a classmate (Jane) on the final project was a wonderful way to plan, create and implement a school plan for Integrating Technology with Language Arts in an effort to boost literacy. The course was a good introduction to standard; although I hadn't realized it at the time. It is now up to me to gain more experience through my final few courses at NJCU and other professional development workshops and conferences.
