Cluster 2 Grant Proposal
The program I am applying for is a health unit about social
decision making. Students will create
anti-violence videos and public service announcements. I applied to Teaching Tolerance Grants
Program. It is funded by the Southern
Poverty Law Center. The website where I
found the program is tolerance.org.
Proposals that are accepted are from K-12 educators with student-centered
projects that focus on diversity and tolerance.
The program should show that it has staying power, and is not a one-time
event. Grants are not given for the
following: salaries, stipends, presenter fees,
overhead costs, travel expenses, food items or computer hardware.
The program that I am applying for
is integrates health, language arts, and technology. Although the study and projects will be
completed by 4th graders, the products, the videos and public
service announcement can be used as tools in any of the grades K-5.
The application process was not
difficult. A one to two page narrative
describing and explaining my program objectives, activities, and products was
needed. A one-page grant application and
a itemized budget were also included in the proposal. It was not a difficult application process,
but finding a program that fit my curricular goals did take a lot of research
time.
I request about $1,000. The limit is $2000. If I am successful I will hear in 10-12
weeks. Yes, I did receive the grant. With the money I purchased the equipment I
need to complete the project. My
students created wonderful skits that will be helpful when teaching about
bullying next year.
I think that I will apply for
other grants in the near future. I have
found a program offered through the National Weather Association that fits well
with a science unit that focuses on weather studies.
