Why does that box
from Yahoo/Geocites pop up??
If you use a computer, I
am sure you have noticed a little box from Yahoo/Geocities that pops up in
the right hand corner of the page. That is their
advertising.
For allowing me to put my pages on their server at no
cost, they put that advertising box on the page. It is like the
commercials you see on T.V. The advertisers pay for the show in
exchange for airing their commercials.
This box does not pop up for
people on WebTv because their systems aren't equipped with a computer
language called "Javascript." Although, I have heard that they are
going to be Javascript enabled sometime in the future and may already be
available in some places.
Just a little information on
Yahoo/Geocites. Yahoo acquired Geocites a while ago so that is why
you see both of the names together a lot of the time. For the most
part, they have had good service. Once in a while their system will
be down and you can't access a page. But considering the vastness of
their system, and the complications computers and WevTv (I am sure you can
all identify with that!), they do a good job.
There are some
people out their who have their own domains. The address to their site
will be something like www.mysitename.com. Most of the time they pay
someone a monthly fee to host their site.
I might do something like
that in the future, but for now, I will just use sites like
Yahoo/Geocites.
So, that is why the little box pops up in the
corner of your screen!!
