MULDERS APARTMENT 11:21 AM Scully had only returned from the Ivory Coast late last night, now she was sitting in Mulder's apartment contemplating what had come of her life. She had thought up so many reasons and excuses that she could use to leave the FBI and the X-Files. But she also thought about the one person who had kept her there all these years. Six years now, to be exact. He was the one who kept her awake at night. That one single person was undoubtedly Mulder. Mulder had saved her a thousand times over. He too, is the reason that she was sitting in his apartment, alive. He was the one who risked his life to find a cure for her cancer. Now, he was locked in a padded cell, screaming her name, and this time she couldn't do anything for him. GEORGETOWN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL 2:25 PM When Scully arrived at the hospital that afternoon neither Skinner nor Fowley were there. She had silently hoped that they weren't as she drove over to the hospital, she wouldn't be able to face them right now. Scully stood, watching the television screens that put Mulder on display. It was as if he could sense she was there as he looked into the camera. She became lost in thought, thinking about how empty her life would be without him. 'I can't live without him,' she realized. Scully snapped out of it as soon as she heard her name being screamed. Mulder wanted her again. Scully heard the door open, the doctor stepped in. "He hasn't slept for three days," the doctor said. "I still can't determine the cause." "I would like the see him please," she said without turning. "I'm sorry Ms. Scully, but he is still dangerous," the doctor replied. "Please, he won't harm me, he is screaming my name for god's sake," Scully added firmly. "I can't, it is a voilation of -," BANG! A gunshot echoed through the room. Scully had shot the doctor, she couldn't believe what she had done, but she had to work fast. This was her chance to repay him for all the times he had saved her. She sighted the keys and swiped them from the doctor's hand. Scully opened the cell and saw Mulder, looking even worse then he did on the screen. "Scully, Scully, I knew you would save me," Mulder said with relief. "C'mon Mulder, we have to get you somewhere safe, somewhere where no-one will find us," Scully said. Scully tried to look unsuspecting as she led Mulder out of the hospital and into her car. "Get in the back Mulder, you need to lie down," Scully ordered Mulder as she felt his forehead for a fever. "Scully," Mulder moaned. "Yes Mulder," Scully said cautiously. "Thank You," Mulder replied softly. Scully shut Mulder's door and got into the driver's seat. She sped of in the direction of her apartment. SCULLY'S APARTMENT 3:57 PM Scully rushed into her apartment. She hurried to her bedroom, grabbed an overnight bag and stuffed some of her clothes in it. Searching through the top of her wardrobe she found some of Bill's clothes he had left there last time he visited. 'These will have to do for Mulder,' she thought. Not wanting to leave Mulder alone for too long, she hurried out of her apartment and back down to the parking lot. Thankfully, Mulder was still there. As she decided where to go from here, she thought of a small motel just outside of D.C. that Mulder had mentioned once. 'What was it,' she thought. The Lucky Star, that was it. She quickly found her cell phone and rang directory assistance. "Hello, yes, the Lucky Star Motel please," Scully told the operator. Scully wrote the number down and rang it, booking a room for the two of them. GEORGETOWN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL 4:36 PM The hospital was now swarming with local law inforcement officers and FBI agents. Assistant Director Skinner and Special Agent Fowley walked hurridly through the doors of the Psychiatric Ward. "Is Mulder here?" Skinner questioned an agent. "No Mulder's gone and Scully can't be reached, at the Bureau or at home, the doctor has been shot. Our current theory is that Agent Scully shot the doctor in order to take Mulder with her," the agent explained. "What's happening?" Fowley asked. "They think that Scully has taken Mulder," Skinner replied. "Alright, I want a ballistics test run on the bullet that wounded the doctor, I'm looking for a match on a Smith and Wesson pistol." "It's being done as we speak sire," an agent assured him. "What would provoke Scully to do this, I know she and Mulder are close, but wouldn't she want him to stay in the hospital, I mean she is a medical doctor?" Fowley asked Skinner. "I don't know, maybe we underestimated Scully's fragility," Skinner said. "Sir, we have a match. The bullet is from a Smith and Wesson pistol," an agent stated. "Thank you," Skinner said quietly. "Alright, I need four agents, two to search Mulder's apartment and two to search Scully's," Skinner shouted. LUCKY STAR MOTEL 5:27 PM Waking Mulder was like waking a rock, he wouldn't budge. After a few minutes of gently shaking him his eyes opened. Mulder hadn't been at all violent since she released him from the hospital. Maybe it was her who calmed him, or maybe it was just because he wasn't locked in that cell. "Scully?" Mulder said sleepily. "C'mon Mulder, we have to get you inside," Scully said. Scully half carried Mulder into the motel room and shut the door behind her. "Hey Scully, what bed do you want," Mulder said flirtatiously. "Whatever bed you're not in," Scully replied. Usually they always have separate adjoining rooms, but this time she didn't want to let Mulder out of her sight for a minute. Mulder laid down on the bed closest to the door. He almost seemed back to his old self. "Alright, stay on that bed and don't move. If you're going to get better you need rest. I'll get you a glass of water," Scully ordered Mulder. Scully went to the bathroom to fill up the jug. Scully's mind drifted, thinking about the fact that it was just her and Mulder, in one room, alone, tonight. Suddenly water splashed to the floor. She quickly grabbed a towel and mopped up the spillage. Scully returned from the bathroom and poured Mulder a glass of water. She gently put the glass to Mulder's lips and he began to drink. Scully put the glass on the bedside table and went to look at the room service menu. She decided to order pizza. It seemed to be the only appetizing thing on the menu. By the time the pizza came though, Mulder was fast asleep, so Scully ate a few slices and left the rest for Mulder when he woke up. As Scully ate she looked at Mulder. He was just like a baby when he was sleeping. Sweet and innocent. As soon as she thought Mulder would be alright she turned down the covers of her bed, removed her jacket and lied down. MULDER'S APARTMENT 8:32 PM Skinner followed two of the agents into Mulder's apartment. He needed to find out what happened. As Skinner ravaged through Mulder's apartment he couldn't find anything that would help determine their location. "Sir, we just received a call from Agent Rabb over at Scully's apartment," one of the afents said to Skinner. "He chekced all outgoing calls from Scully's cell phone since midday today. She called one location, the Lucky Star Motel. "Where is that?" Skinner asked. "Just outside of D.C.," the agent replied. "Alright, you stay here and look for anything more. I'm going to see if they're there. I don't want anyone else there. I need to negotiate with them, but be ready," Skinner said. LUCKY STAR MOTEL 9:07 PM Mulder woke to darkness. As his eyes adjusted he found Scully fast asleep on the bed next to his. Then he remembered where he was. Mulder got out of his bed and went to lay next to Scully, who was curled up on the edge of her bed. As Mulder laid down next to her she stirred and woke. "Mulder," Scully said, slightly surprised. "Hey Scully," Mulder said. "I just wanted to thank you again." Scully smiled at Mulder as he gently wrapped his arms around her small body. She didn't even flinch. For once in her life, this felt completely natural. Scully moved her body closer to Mulder's, and gently kissed his lips. "Mulder," Scully said softly. "Yeah," he replied. "I don't think I actually realised it before now, but I love you" Scully whispered, as if afraid to say the words. "You know what Scully, I love you too," Mulder smiled. They kissed again, thousands of wonderful thoughts passing through their minds. "I wish the world outside didn't exist tonight," Scully said, almost sadly. "It doesn't," Mulder replied. BANG! The door swung open. Mulder and Scully quickly broke the embrace and looked towards where the sound came from. Skinner was standing in the doorway with a gun pointed at them. "Hello Sir," Scully said. Skinner stared for a moment, jaw to the floor. Then he fell to the ground. "Oh my god, he fainted," Scully laughed. "He sure did get a shock, but you have to admit we are pretty hot together," Mulder teased. Scully threw the pillow at him. "Go on Scully, you'd better see if he's alright," Mulder said. Mulder looked at Scully tending to Skinner, his FBI princess was his. His life was perfect. At the same single moment in time, Scully knew that life couldn't get any better. THE END
