| District of Columbia Youngsters Against Animal Cruelty is a Humane Education group dedicated to teaching kindness, respect, and compassion towards animals in inner-city youth through education and outreach. We facilitate our mission through our Humane Education, Youth and Community Service, and Community Outreach Programs. We strongly believe that children who are allowed to be cruel to animals often grow up to be cruel to humans. Founded in 1999, by Antwonye Kirkpatrick,YAAC has over 60 members who volunteer their time to educate children about the importance of caring for all animals. Our useful and effective humane education presentations are provided free of charge to area schools and non-profit organizations. Designed by young people themselves, Our programs speak to young people from a perspective that they understand. Adult volunteers also assist with the implementation of our education programs. Other YAAC programs include: the Community Animal Initiative, The Animal Welfare Education Project, The Activist Resource Program, The Animal Rights Hall of Fame, and the Compassionate Kids Programs. Compasionate Kids Training Academy Youngsters Against Animal Cruelty, in coordination with local animal welfare organizations will host the Compassionate Kids Training Academy. This six-week program will teach young people in the city how to be kind to animals. Students in the program will be involved in workshops,service projects, and other activities. The Community Animal Intitiative As the newest YAAC program,. the intiative works to teach responsible pet ownership in the community. Started through a youth service grant, The initiative provided assistance to low-income residents with companion animals, and provide tender love and cate to animals.
