My work over the past 10 years has been focused on how culture forms the foundation upon which we build a society that is sustainable... or not.  Individually and collectively, our values and behaviours determine our sustainability on a planet that is already unable to support all the demands that humans place on its systems.  But humanity's creativity and ingenuity has navigated difficult situations before.  Cultural organizations, like museums and art galleries, have the potential to help assess the pressing needs of our day and develop mechanisms for addressing them.

You will find links on this page, pdf versions of selected articles and book chapters I have published on the topics of:
1)  culture and sustainability
2)  "meaning-making"
3)  creativity
4)  technologies in museums.

You may also want to check out a 2006 article published in a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Communication, focused on 'Heritage, Culture and Art.' My contribution is called "Transformational Encounters: Reflections on Cultural Participation and Ecomuseology";, and can be downloaded free at <http://www.cjc-online.ca/viewissue.php?id=113>.;

In 2006, I guest-edited the Fall 2006 issue of "Museums and Social Issues".  The theme of the issue is 'A Culture of Sustainability' and contains many great articles.  This can be accessed through Left Coast Press, <http://www.lcoastpress.com>.

I welcome your comments, feedback and leads on interesting material related to culture and sustainability.
