Scenic Florida Rides

Flagler Beach is rural Florida, as is much of the interior. I've found a few scenic roads, and a few that are just nice to ride. FL 40, crosses the state through the Ocala National Forest (and on weekends and holidays is loaded with speed traps), and FL 42 crosses the state at the foot of the Forest, and is mildly hilly, curvy, and takes you through cattle and horse country. Very few traffic lights and intersections, and virtually no towns; all in all the nicest ride yet. Be sure to ride the Loop.

The Loop
From the Pier in Flagler Beach, proceed south on A1A (Scenic Hwy) to Highbridge, right to John Anderson, left to FL 40, right across bridge to Beach St, right to Charles Boardman, right to Old Dixie, right to Highbridge, follow curve (tight) to left to to A1A, left to Pier. You'll experience very few lights and intersections, beautiful wetlands and wildlife, trees growing into a canopy over the road, the ruins of an old Sugar Mill made of Coquina Rock, and the ambiance of rural Florida.

Ride for Lunch & Back
From New Smyrna take FL 44 West to Deland (25 miles)
From Daytona take US 92 to Deland (approximately 30 miles)
Pick up Grand Avenue (4053) in Deland
Take Grand Avenue to Rt 17
Turn Left on 17 for approximately 8 miles
Two (2) miles past Route 40 turn Left (Emporia Road) which hooks back to 40 in about 5-6 miles (Stay on Emporia - there are several intersections)
Turn Right on 40 to 445A (approximately 4 miles)
Go Left on 445 to 19 (about 9 miles)
Go Left on 19 to 42 (about 5 miles)
Go Right on 42 to 452 (about 6 miles).
Turn Left on 452 to Eustice (about 10 miles)
Take Lake Eustice Road (might still be 452) to Tavares (City) (4 miles)
Pick up 452 again (Lakeshore Drive), take 452 to 44B (Mount Dora) (5 miles)
In Mount Dora, Go Left on 44B to 44 (4 miles)
At 44 -- Quick Left right to 44A to Luiyqul Road (5 miles)
Turn Right on Luiyqul Road to 439 (5 miles)
Turn Left on 439 to 42 (2 miles)
Turn Right on 42 to 44 (12-13 miles)
Back to 44 to Deland (5 miles)
Total Miles from Daytona or New Smyrna is approximately 160 miles round trip.

Barberville Circuit
From the intersection of US17 & FL40 (Citgo Station) go north on US17 to 1st Left (Emporia Road), Left at Stop Sign & continue into some 90 degree twisties, takes you back to FL40 (Citgo Station- not the same one), then Left to US17 (NOW you're back at the original Citgo)
Sweet little ride.
