1) Track orders, look out for items to be received. [Completed]

 

Major accomplishments associated with this task are: Received all items. Software, received license through email. Dell equipment arrived late in week.

 

2) Setup equipment. [In Progress]

 

Major accomplishments associated with this task are: Configured OS, Installed Trend on server, Installed ArcServe, installed backup agents on all planned servers, configured tape drive)

 

3) Document work done. [Ongoing]

 

Major accomplishments associated with this task are: Took screen shots and camera shots of work in progress. Took noted when needed. Will assemble into workable docs by end of project.

 

Decisions

[What came up that needed to be addressed? Backup server didn't recognize new hard drives. Decision to not install new exchange, SQL and open file agents until next week. Did you run into a problem or roadblock? Drive recognition How did you solve it? Setup RAID on Backup server, had to re-install OS. Learning

1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? Reassurance from individuals working on project. Pier review of PowerVault What did you learn from this feedback? We made the right decision concerning Trend. PowerVault looks like it will suit our needs.

 

2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? People Did you add new resources? No What was your learning? How to install and setup a Dell Power Vault. For instance, Dell makes it extremely easy to set up. The installation CD (which houses the drivers) is clearly marked and the documentation on the CD is easy to find. The quick start guide clearly indicates how and where to plug the SCSI cable and the process for powering on and loading tapes.

 

3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? Literature What was your learning? Manual on setting up Dell 132T LTO. Setting up is easily done through an LCD display screen on front of the unit. One navigates through a series of arrow buttons and an action button. When the machine is powered on for the first time it walks you through a wizard that assists in setting up such items as an IP address. ArcServe is generally use to take care of the rest such as what slots to load each designated tape on and the command line on the unit is usful for loading and unloading tapes on the backplane such as the cleaning tape that doesn't get moved on a daily or even weekly basis.

1) How well did you stick to your project schedule? Fairly well. Pushed documentation. Found out that some configuration must be performed on go live date.

 

2) How prepared are you to conclude your project in Unit 10 as required in this course? Confident will finish as planned

 

3) How likely is it that you will need to resort to your contingency plan? Not likely. The process to date is proceeding well.
