After visiting Alsace but before going to Paris, we made a short stop in Basel, Switzerland to visit a friend of Kendra's from her year in Strasbourg.
Basel has such character. The brightly colored and intricately painted city hall proudly displays the Swiss flag bordered on each side by Basel's own.
Basel is known as a city of culture especially where art is concerned. This fountain (below) was designed by Tinguely, a man who has a whole museum devoted to his work. The centrepieces are in contant motion and are quite entertaining to watch.
And here is Claudia, a great friend and wonderful host, who decided to introduce us to another facet of Swiss cutlure--Raclette...
Cheese, cheese and more cheese. We've never eaten so much cheese at one sitting in our lives. It sure was good though!
Next stop: the Black Forest right across the border from Switzerland, in Germany (Basel is actually located on the convergence of the Swiss, French and German borders)
Neither of us speak German but we both understood this word!
Lake Titisee, in the heart of the Black Forest. A beautiful area; the only downside was that it rained almost the whole 5 days we were there. Made for some good pictures though!
