ISPA and PIA Planetarium

Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics will now be upgraded. PIA Planetarium will become part of KU (how interesting).
Dr Atta-ur Rehman said that the size and location of the land for the planetarium were yet to be decided. We want to make the planetarium a part of our space and planetary astrophysics institute, but at the same time the facility would also be made available to Karachiites.
This is some news for KU ppl esp Dcsians. Consider a PIA plane standing at BS Canteen and we are allowed to carry our drinks and chips to the plane.

UBIT

Except for Final year students everyone is happy at the inauguration of UBIT.  Final year student will be not be able to use the facilities of new university (sigh).

A new building constructed for information technology institute was inaugurated at the University of Karachi.

The Computer Science department of Karachi University, established in 1985, presently housed in the Aiwan-i-Iqbal hostel building, will now be shifted to the new building and upgraded as the Umaer Basha Institute of Information Technology at the beginning of the first semester of the varsity's 2005 session.

The building of the institute, made like that of the IT department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston, USA, has a total construction area of 68,000sq-ft comprising three floors and built at a cost of Rs56 million mainly donated by the Umaer Basha Foundation, USA.

This is made possible with the help of Project Director Dr. Prof S.M Aqil Burney.
