JOSHUA JACKSON

LOVERBOY! TV Hits Magazine (Australia) August 2000 #144

Screaming girls, older woman and Katie Holmes - Josh Jackson goes girl crazy.

So how has your life changed in the past few years?
I'm now being given so many opportunities. When I was 18, I was unemployed and begging for work. Since Dawson's Creek became a success, I've had so much exposure, like being lead in a film.

Is a normal life hard now you're a mega-star?
Yeah, but the fan part's not that bad. Someone comes up and says, "Hey, I like what you do, keep up the good work," and they might ask for a picture or autograph, and continue their merry way. Having someone scream at you in the street is a little strange. After all I'm a human being.

We heard you had a mob of fans on The Skulls set.
One day we filmed near a high school doing a scene in a car and we just drove around the block all day. At first, there were three or four girls. Next time around, there were 10 girls, and eventually there were, like, 100 girls. Some girls were screaming "Josh!" and others yelling, "Pacey!" I had a big head for the rest of the film. (Laughs).

So you don't mind hundreds of screaming girls?
There's nothing like that high pitch girls can hit. When my sixteen-year-old sister is in a room of girls her age, half of them will be giggling. Then they'll all start and hit that level. It's funny to watch this pack mentality, to see how little we've progressed from monkeys. We're such social animals.

What? Girls aren't monkeys!
We're all monkeys! We act off each other. Our behaviour completely shifts depending on the people we're with.

Now, how hard was that rowing scene in The Skulls?
It was heavy duty work. I did the scene myself because I hate movies where a stunt person does something and the actor fakes it. I wanted to get it right.

Besides that scene the rest of the film must have been easy?
Wrong. The whole film was an intense experience as I worked so hard. When I went home, I knew I had nothing left. It was a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

Are you the main man in your next Gossip?
No, I'm a supporting character. The point of the film is to see how gossip can change and mutate and ultimately affect someone's life and their fate.

What kind of girl do you like?
I like girls to talk to me about anything. But not about me. I do plenty of that! Truthfully, I like a woman who's secure in what she believes and challenges you to be firm in what you believe. When you go head to head, sparks fly.

Are you and Brittany Daniel (Eve on Dawson's) dating?
All I'll say, I'm dating an older woman and I really like that she's so formed as a person. But I don't want to talk about it any more than to say that I'm dating.

What's your policy on dating co-workers?
There's the ethic that says don't make a mess where you eat. Although, what can you do when you're surrounded by beautiful women? You might as well, right? If I'm attracted to somebody, I don't care if I'm working with them or if I've met them in a coffee shop.

What is Katie Holmes like to work with?
This season I've had more of a chance to work with Katie, which is incredibly enjoyable. I think she's one of the best actresses around. She forces you to produce your best stuff, because if you don't she completely overpowers you.

OK, the Pacey, Joey, Dawson love triangle - what's the deal?
Yeah, they can't really decide. They're going to go one of two ways - either use me to get her back to him, or keep us together and do that later.

Why should she choose Pacey then?
Because I'm funny, man - everybody likes the funny guy.

Or because Pacey's cuter?
Yeah, damn it!
